Would Sakurai disappoint us?

Very few instances of characters representing franchises on their own. Examples: Capt. Falcon from Fzero and Snake from Metal Gear (presumably), which are franchises that aren't exactly packed with iconic characters. I could see an adventure/platform game like Kid Icarus getting the Zelda or Fire Enblem treatment just because it could.

Kid Icarus wasn't exactly a big franchise, and I don't know of any characters that could be added.

It's also occured to me that many people think that King Dedede will be a playable character in Brawl, because Knuckle Joe was announced as an AT. Now, put yourself in Sakurai's position. If King Dedede wasn't playable in SSBB (and considering that if he isn't, he's pretty much guaranteed to be an AT) would you announce Knuckle Joe first? To me, that does seem a little... sadistic.

Fire Enblem is that big outside of Japan and Roy is only in one game. He still gets in. Seems that apart from Capt. Falcon only novelty characters (Ice Climbers, Game&Watch) don't have franchise companion characters. Might be worth opening yourself up to the possibility.

VagrantWade, do you reaslise that your "posts" are in the wrong thread? You're talking about characters in a topic that isn't designed to talk about the characters themselves. I am not interested in hearing arguments about why/why not characters should/should not be in the game, but it seems that in any given thread, that's all it ends up becoming, due to idiots like yourself. If you want to argue about whether or not Palutena will/will not be in Brawl, please go and do it in the correct thread in the correct section of the forum.

IMO however, Petunea [or whoever this is] has litle chance of bieng playable, while Peach is all but confirmed. But that is IMO!

Marth and Roy were intended to be taken out of the American version of Smash. Because they were not however, Fire Emblem has since exploded in America as well. And Roy was in no games at the time of Smash's release. He was advertising his upcoming game. That's the only reason he was in.

First of all, I'd like to agree with the guy you guys are so against, VagrantWade, because I can actually see his point of view.

Second, on topic, I think Sakurai is definately not trying to disappoint us, but not for your reasons. I think he revealed Goroh as the first AT, and Deoxys as one of the first Pokemon not to let us down softly, but to make us happy that they're actually in the game. I don't think he expected Goroh or Deoxys fans to get pissed off about it, but to rejoice it! That's also the reason I think he put Hammer Bros in one of the first AT screenshots, as well as in the Adventure Mode update. To get all the Hammer Bro lovers he saw in his poll to be happy and appreciate it. Of course, Sakurai doesn't know that we wanted Deoxys or Goroh, or even Hammer Bros in the game, not to gah-gah over and say "OMFG ITZ DEOXYZ LOL1!!", but because we were excited to see what kind of moveset he could come up with, and how the character would play like. At least, that's the way I see it.

Things learned from this thread:

Nothing is confirmed, by definition, until we hear about it from an official source (i.e. the Dojo). Just because you think you can "confirm" that God won't be a playable character doesn't entitle you to boast about it if you end up being right (which you almost certainly would be). Palutena has not been confirmed just like Peach hasn't been confirmed, and if you think seeing a picture of Peach on the site confirms that she'll be playable, you need to go back to dictionary.com and do some research. (This does not mean that if Sakurai updates to say Peach is playable in a few hours that you can say I was wrong, because the fact is that Peach has not been confirmed playable, and Palutena has not been "unconfirmed" playable. There is a difference between "Peach is/will be playable" and "Peach has been confirmed to be playable".) That said, VagrantWade, if you still don't see how it's incorrect to say Palutena won't be playable as a "FACT," and that you cannot, in fact, confirm such based on what we've seen, bring it to PMs.

Also, don't moderate if you're not a moderator. Telling people where a thread goes is an example of moderating, and when you try to moderate and you do it incorrectly, all you do is throw discussion in a tailspin.

Now, I'm not going to bother to close this in the event that someone actually wants to continue discussion. If not, fine. But no more confirming information that hasn't actually been confirmed, because that's how bull**** rumors get spread. Speculate as you will, but unless you are Masahiro Sakurai, you have no business confirming anything.

To get back on the topic at hand, I don't think Sakurai would try to disappoint us. I mean since we are the consumers, he would want to work with us, and that is why he has had polls and the such. The only problem is, he can only put so much into the game, and the choices don't only rely on what the people want but also what companies agree upon being allowed to be used in SSBB.

Even if EVERY person that plays Super Smash wanted Sonic to be in SSBB if SEGA said no then there is no Sonic.

I also think Sakurai is revealing things slowly to add suspense but at the same time be 200% sure those things are in the game so we won't be disappointed.

Palutena won't be playable so I wouldn't worry about it.

Ridley and Palutena are part of Samus' and Pit's storyline respectively.

All characters will have a backstory.
