Would people crave for GameCube controllers to this day?

If the Wii wasn't compatible with them.

And instead, where the Gamecube ports are on the Wii there were controller ports for the classic controller, who would use a different plug and therefore not connect to the Wii Remote.

The Wii would still be compatible with GameCube games and memory cards, but the Classic Controller would've been required to play them. All games compatible with the GameCube controller (but not Classic) would instead be compatible with the Classic Controller

If you wanted to continue playing Super Smash Bros., you'd have to settle for the Classic Controller, if the GameCube controller wasn't compatible with the Wii. And if the Classic Controller had port options on the Wii, then I'm sure some people would have an easier time transitioning to that controller, rather than holding dearly onto the GameCube controller. However, the Classic Controller has two flaws. The ZR and ZL are in a bad spot. You might accidentally hit the R or L button instead while playing Smash, and if you were playing competitively, then it could really screw your set up. The two analog sticks are also too close to one another, making it to where when I played with it, my thumbs would sometimes bump into one another. The Classic Controller Pro would be a better option if the GameCube controller became obsolete. At least during the Wii and Wii U eras.

Don’t the control sticks on the classic controller wear out easily?

I don't do competitive Smash, so it wouldn't change for me...at least until I tried to play Active Life: Extreme Challenge (or, later this week, DDR Mario Mix). Who in their right mind would hook up an ultra dance mat to a remote?

EDIT: Oh. They wouldn't connect to a Wiimote.

Still, DDR!

I don't know. I've barely used it to be honest. I'm currently using the Classic Controller Pro, however, and the analog sticks seem to be dealing with a lot more than I remember the GameCube controller being able to.
