I have a friend who is a hard core Metal Gear fan, and I was wanting to try out the Metal Gear Games for myself, I can gain access to the NES Metal Gear, and the PS1 Metal Gear, and the twin Snakes Metal Gear with in a day, I can also get any Metal Gear for the PS2, but that would take me about a month per game. I will never be able to play any game for the PS3 for money reasons. So which should I start with and what are some beginers tips that could be useful without spoiling the game for me, NO SPOLIERS only tips and advice. Let me restate that, I am ok with small spoilers, just nothing big.

Edit: My friend has already told me the plot of Metal Gear 2 so he could tell me about the codex calls, I saw all of them and can not get them out of the head. Do not worry about Metal Gear 2 spoilers.

Err.... You should probably try the MSX version of the original Metal Gear.
The NES port isn't.... good or canon.

The MSX game is tricky to find unless your friend has the 2 disc version of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence.....

I would say start with Metal Gear Solid for the PSX if you can't get the MSX version of the original Metal Gear.

When you navigate, you need to be patient or you may run into traps.

Don't be afraid to call your codec friends if you get stuck.

Was Twin Snakes worth trying to pick-up?

Anyway, metal gear 3 comes in various forms. Substance has a typical 3D camera while the other verisons contain a fixed camera for swapping between 3rd person and 1st person.

I would say that its worth starting with either Twin Snakes or MGS on the PS1. I started with PS1 MGS, and I generally ignore any of the games that come before (90% of the Metal Gear story starts with MGS1 anyway).

But when it comes down to it, MGS1 has the cannon story while Snake Eater has prettier graphics and some extras. IMO Snake Eater is better but if you're in it for the story start with MGS1 then play MGS Snake Eater later.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and when you get to MGS2, the less you think about the plot the less your brain will hurt.

MSX version is crap, are you kidding me or...? You know what, not even gonna argue that.

Start with MGS1 on the ps1, twin snakes is silly as ****, then MGS2, 3, then 4. You probably want to look up hella **** on the plot online if you want to fully understand it.

Side note, I myself got subsistence because the camera is stupid in Snake Eater. Either way, the game is easy as ****, even on extreme. I'm not sure how it's 'better' seeing how the camo system puts it on easy mode and coolest boss fight might as well be the least dangerous, along with the ways you can avoid it, and you can go like, ****ing rambo on people and it won't really matter til you get to the River of Sorrow, then it kinda matters, then you finish that and it no longer matters.
