I guess I'll have to since Sakurai made a lot of bad decisions with the online capabilities. According to him our record doesn't matter

none of the decisions so far are necessarily "bad"
except for no online headset so far, this could change though
O rly? Not having a ranking system or records of how you do against others in the world isn't bad? Not being able to see of who you are actually playing again isn't bad? Hell, if I wanted to play with no names I'd just play with the AI

Its not bad at all, its generally good

Look at mario kart ds, metroid prime hunters, and mario strikers, that game is full of disconnectors galore. People seem to care so much about an online record that they'll go out of their way to cancel the whole match they just played. Keep rank matches in "with friends", its the best and safest choice to keep smash a fun game, and not 100% competetive

It's going to be 100% competitive regardless. Disconnectors get penalized in their record so who cares. I don't see how not being able to see who you are playing against is good or sending text for that matter. It's like playing with the AI and you won't even feel as if your online.

The way nintendo went with the wii, in general, they're aiming at the casual, I'm not saying this has a direct connect with smash bros in general, but the smash world is bigger than the competetive, casual eletists, etc. Sakurai even said it before that he wants the game to remain good clean fun, and even if players got penalized for disconnecting, most would still do it for the sake of avoiding embaressment

People will disconnect whether there are rankings or not. I'm sure if someone is getting beaten so badly(despite the match not being ranked) they will still disconnect regardless b/c they hate losing. They won't aviod embarassment, but build it as their losses would increase. The game can remain good clean fun hence there could be a Ranked Section and Unranked Section. Problem solved, but are they going to do this.....NO.

Eh, although you're generally right (even though I still say no rankings for random battles is good -_-), sakurai rather be safe then sorry and have the smash community turn into the mario kart community, you can't hate on nintendo for trying to remain the "party" system of the 3

That's for people with Wifi, dawg.

I highly doubt that I will, I'm too lazy. I'd only use it to play people I know, anyway.

I still don't see the point in not seeing who you are playing.

I'll probably keep mental records. and keep small day to day records. like if im on a win streak. like evereyone says. Records = Hard work. especialy because once you beat the game, Get everey trophy, sticker, unlock everey stage and Character. the only place left to go is online.

Wiinternet FTW.

I won't. Actually, my plan is to use "With Anyone" Wi-Fi as practice. If I want to play competitively, I'll just go here for FC's, which brings me to my next point:

Are we gonna get a Smashboards chat room or something before Brawl comes out? If not, then someone better make a Brawl AIM/Yahoo/MSN chatroom pronto!

I really doubt they care much about whether people disconnect or not. Why should they? They've made the sale. They aren't charging them to play online, so it really means jack **** to them.

Nintendo's just trying to be family friendly and all that other nonsensical bull****.

It's the Wii. You're supposed to play WITH FRIENDS! You have to agree with me when I say that trash talking to people you know (or kinda know, such as people from here) is much more satisfying then some random person.

EDIT: Plus, I think Sakurai made "With Anyone" mode like that so you can get some practice before playing with friends, where the meat of the Wi-Fi is. (And should be.)

Yes, I remember. People were so obsessed with their record in Mario Kart DS they kept disconnecting everytime they got beaten. That's when I got tired of playing Mario Kart online. It started getting ridiculous.Of course, these were the people that had very high record and low number of losses. It could of been because they were good, or because they were a disconnecter. Really don't know.So what's the best way of eliminating disconnectors? Not having a ranking system for anonymous play.

Then again. You'll be surprised people will still disconnect even if no record is involved, simply because they are too mad and wont accept someone else beating them. If anonymous play had names, people would still try to disconnect to avoid reputation loss. Of course, I'd still vote for having names and a ranking system. I'm just pointing out the negative reasons why we don't.

If you want to show the smash community how good you are, just record a video of you playing *note* a pro or alteast someone average, and they'll tell you if you are kicka$$ or not. after all, that's how we got our pros now.

I never said they don't want people to play online. Of course they want that because it's an appealing service and it draws people in to smash bros. However, they don't care if someone disconnects or not. It doesn't affect them at all because once somebody's already bought the game (whether it was because of online play or whatever other reason), Nintendo has claimed its profit. And nobody is going to blame Nintendo for other people disconnecting in the middle of a game, so Nintendo still manages to maintain it's good image by providing the service.

@Tobi- Or...a better way of eliminating disconnectors is having online play but adding a loss to the record if they disconnect. You forfeit, you lose. Wouldn't that be the common sense thing to do?
