The mayor thing I dislike about the 3DS version of this game is that it lacks the ability of past Smash Bros games to use the C-Stick as a shortcut to preform smash attacks. Because of this I am hopeful that the Circle Pad Pro will be usable to allow for a shortcut to smash attacks on Super Smash Bros for 3DS.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss people's opinions on whether or not they would support such an option, and any news that may or may not come regarding this.
(If the ability to use the Circle Pad Pro has already been confirmed or denied and I am just an idiot whom missed it please tell me.)

While it'd be cool and I'd use the heck out of it, I really doubt they'll make this happen. The peripheral is so specific and considering Sakurai's previous decision to not use it in a game that'd be perfect for it (Kid Icarus: Uprising) I'm not holding my breath.

(...but deep inside, the child dreams on)

same here I even looked up games that use it one of which is Kid icciris. However it only provided a controls for left handed indivues.
However it was a game that Masahiro Sakurai worked on. So I do see it being possible. Now it may be possible to bring a xl one to best buy and "try it out" if you want to be risky but I would not suggest it. For all we know the code might already be in the game.

That would be a cool use of the Circle pad pro. I suppose only time will tell if this will be implemented or not. If it happens I'll have a reason to pick up the circle pad that's for sure.

My question is, is it comfortable to reach over the circle pad pro's analog stick to reach the ABXY buttons you'll be pressing most of the time?

I used the CPP every time I played Resident Evil: Revelations, and at no point was reaching the buttons an issue. It's only a slightly more horizontal reach than hitting the buttons on a Wii U Pro controller.

I actually have a friend who leaves his CPP attachment on at all times just because it's easier on his hands. Better grip and all that.

I have a cpp XL, and it works fine. If you have small hands it might be a problem.

Nothing's confirmed yet, but considering how many control options Sakurai managed to get working for Brawl, I wouldn't be surprised if CCP support was in the cards.

Maybe...just don't use the C-stick anymore? That way 3DS is much easier?
Using the C-stick for aerials gives you more options, as you can throw attacks any which way without altering your momentum. Willfully not using that to your advantage if it's available is willfully putting yourself at a disadvantage against someone using it.

If it's not available, it's not available. But it felt like there was a button missing when I played on the 3DS XL, and I couldn't land any side aerials proper. (And since I was using Zelda, this was a problem. I felt very amateurish.)

Very good point. I never use the C-stick so this is no problem for me but I can totally see where others come from.

I too want to know if Smash 3DS has Circle Pad Pro support. It won't be a deal breaker but I don't want my Circle Pad Pro to collect more dust. Smash 3DS will be out in Japan 3 months from now and still no word on support.

To make some comparison, here's the current list of games with Circle Pad Pro support:
3D Galaxy Force II
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy (Japan release only)
Dynasty Warriors VS (Japan only game)
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance
Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D
Monster Hunter 3 G
Moon Chronicles
Nano Assault EX
Picross e
Resident Evil: Revelations
Retro City Rampage
Samurai Warriors Chronicles 2nd (Japan only game)
Steel Diver: Sub Wars

I'm still hoping Smash will have CPP support!

I'm for and kinda against to be honest. If it does support it then it will give you a huge advantage over people who don't have one but if it's not supported then I feel like I'm going to enjoy the 3DS version a lot less. Overall I guess I would prefer if it is supported since money isn't a issue for me.

I don't understand why Nintendo keeps making these peripherals, then not supporting them.

The CPP was a great idea. They made a few of them, released a few games that used it, annnnnd... stopped. Now the only way you're going to get one is secondhand. Same with the Wii LAN adapter. Unless they start producing those again, there's going to be a huge demand and no supply for those once Smash releases. You can already barely find them now that MK8 is out.

I'm hoping they're in the works for a new better circle pad device for 2DS/3DS/XL, you already can't pocket a 3ds inside a cpp so why not add one under ABXY even if it can't be closed. However I at least assume it'll be compatible with cpp.

Possibly to remind us of R.O.B and to hint that he is in the game. :p

I realy would like to see this work, I can see the extra option becoming a game cube c stick

Even if the C-Stick or the grab/shield on R/ZR aren't implemented, It will be probably more comfortable to play with.

With the cpp xl it's harder to reach the r key, so if it isn't supported you have to reach farther with your finger to roll

Yeah, probably for people with 3DS XL could be a problem. Luckly for me I got a normal one ;)

The XL cpp includes an "R" button right over the RT button, so you don't have to press your 3DS XL's "R" shoulder button.

That button doesn't work unless the game is optimized for cpp

I thought nothing worked if a game isn't ccp compatible. Even on the original.
If the game is not cpp compatible, no buttons on it will work. So you would have to reach your finger over the cpp r button to press the 3ds r button

I think most would opt to take off their cpp when the game doesn't support it.

Well I just went out to EB Games and bought a CCP-XL, so I hope it does indeed work with Smash Bros, otherwise I just spent $20 on a grip for my 3DSXL.

Still worth it, ithas an awesome feel. And there is no way sakurai isn't gonna take advantage of 4 shoulder buttons

I really hope that the CPP is usable, I would buy one specifically for this game. I really need to be able to do d-airs without fastfalling

since Sakurai has already added support for CPP in Kid Icarus (abiet for liefies) it is very possible that he could've added CPP support for Smash 3DS...but only time will tell

I also ponder on whether the circle pad pro will become eligible for use. I know the experience varies from user to user, but playing an action oriented game like Kingdom Hearts on my XL can cause some stress on my hands within 30 minutes to an hour. With a fighting game, I imagine that stress being amplified due to requiring more precision.

I didn't know this but the Circle Pad Pro also adds two extra shoulder buttons (ZL and ZR.) L and R could both become shield and ZL and ZR could both be grab, that'd be preferable to the default setup. Seems like a good idea, kinda want one and wish they came in Aqua Blue.

Seems like something they'd support...but, the Circle Pad Pro XL wasn't really released here in North America, was it? Maybe online.

From what I read, it hasn't been confirmed. But I would LOVE to use a 2nd Circle Pad to use as a C-stick.

Knowing Sakurai, he might just do this to appeal to the more competitive Smash fans even further. What's wrong with adding a bit more icing on the cake? Especially if it'll get you more sales. (Take my money if this works...)

The lack of a C-Stick on Smash 3DS doesn't really bother me, but you know, if the game indeed supports the peripheral, it'd be great for those who want it.
