Would it make more sense to do the tournament earlier than 4:00 CST then? I'm guessing most people have off on Sundays and would be home in the early afternoon.

There's a Twitch link in the OP where the participants use the chatroom for communication. I personally think we should use Smash Ladder for its match-making system though.

I think he just means using a Room in the Smash Ladder Chat to communicate rather than the Twitch Stream. >w>;

Yeah, what Duo said. And through SL's challenge system, its easier for opponents to keep track of stuff. There's a character select screen, a stage selector (with striking system included), and one on one chat feature for you and the person you're facing. It's extremely convenient and more "organized" for tournaments instead of just the Twitch room. But it's up to you, man.

Hmmm that would be dope but it would require that everyone also has a smashladder account and it would be harder for me personally to stay in touch with everyone if everyone is off in different windows. Twitch chat is decent for now and the whisper function can be useful for PM's etc.

Link to chat is in thread description. You have to utilize twitch chat. If you aren't in the chat and you opponent cannot contact you within 5 min you will be DQ'd unfortunately to keep things rolling.
