Will Assist Trophies also become unlockable?

Just think about it. Sakurai stated, that he does not want the secret characters to be spoiled. But what about the Assist Trophies? Here's an example: Snake, being a 3rd party character will be an unlockable... but what about Grey Fox? If he appears, you just know that Snake is a PC, even if you didn't unlock him yet.

My point is: Do you think that Assist Trophies will be unlocked when you get a new character?

I doubt it, since Raiden was supposedly available in the Jump Fest demo. I think certain Assist Trophies may be rarer than others, but I don't think they'll be unlockable, just like Pokeballs aren't unlockable.

Mew and Celebi were unloackable in Melee, so I see unloackable ATs in Bawl!

Sakurai has stated in "What is an assist trophy" and on NUMEROUS trophies themselves that they won't be playable. Yet people still keep asking.

Edit: Aaaand that isn't at all what you were saying. Hm, it's interesting as an idea, but Sakurai has said "play the SSE first" if you didnt want to be "spoiled", so there you have it.

no, according to my strategy guide, Mew was unlocked after unlocking every character, and Celebi after unlocking everything in the game.

For the record, the OP isn't saying they'd be playable, but that ATs would only appear after certain conditions have been met.

And I'm inclined to agree with him.

If you mean, say, when you unlock Snake, Grey Fox and whatever other Metal Gear assist trophies are unlocked, then no.
What about the coin launcher game, could you unlock them on that perhaps?

actually that sounds very plausible to believe that Grey fox won't come out of an AT unless you've unlocked snake. and mew and celebi did work that way in SSBM

Right behind you with a knife.
Mew had to be unlocked? I knew Celebi dd...But yes, it does seem likely that you do need the third party character in question to get he ATs to show up. It probably won't say anything about it, like with the Pokemon's case, but it will none the less take effect. =/

Pokemon from pokeballs weren't unlockable so that rests my case.
You can't compare them like that.

Pokeballs don't ruin any surprises. (unless you think every single pokemon has a chance to be playable)

Assist Trophies, by definition are additional characters from all sorts of series.
Now, if you for example see Knuckles appearing, you know Sonic is playable, and your surprise is ruined.

Nah, to me it sounds not only plausible, but also sounds like a smart thing to do.
