Wiimotes banned from tournaments?!

I'm planning a large tournament in the future. (It will not be for at least 6 months.)

However, in planning for the event, I discovered something. How will Wiimotes be brought to tournament play? I assume they only have a set number of channels, and presumably four. Every match you'll have to reassign the Wiimote to that Wii. I don't know this for sure, since I haven't had the time to put it through testing.

I'm hoping one of you can give me an answer.

That's not even including the other reasons why wireless controllers (Wavebirds) are banned. One being that they run on batteries, which is another issue.

Any thoughts?

The wii auto setups the controllers, the user doesn't (like the wavebird)
People can't just turn theirs on a certain number with out setting it up first

I started a thread on this long ago. Unless someone comes up with a reliable way to sync remotes with nearby Wiis efficiently (without accidentally syncing with another Wii in the room), they may have to be banned. Gamecube controllers will be the only reliable method.

Discuss it here, please: http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=106100

Somehow i doubt Wiimotes would be that popular for tournaments anyways.:ohwell:
Agreed. There really is no way to get passed all the syncing junk anyways.

Well, only if everyone did one Wii at a time...but at tourneys people get angry and impatient.

Is it too much to ask for sharing 4 Wiimotes? You can't ban an entire control scheme even if not a lot of people will use it.

I am plenty willing to share my Wii remotes, but most of the community prefers to use their own controller for fear of losing the match as a result of being unfamiliar with the controller's nuances (stick sensitivity, broken triggers, etc.).

Common sense dictates banning. Some people can be a little 'excitable' when it comes to videogames. Heh =P

I'm sure a suitable action will be taken regarding Wii-motes once we can fully test them when Brawl comes out. That picture is lol though .-. one of the reasons why I have my little cousins use the wrist strap.

I am waiting for the Wii Wheel that is going to be released with the Wii Mario Kart. This way I will have better grip on the Wiimote when I play Braw with said Wiimote. Oh, plus I want to start a crew called the Wiilers.

Sure, you could be the Canadian representative for the Wiilers! I am starting it in Clearwater, Florida (where I live).
I shall be your enemy!

I shall be the master of the Wii-Fit Pad in Brawl. My wavedashing skills will be unbeatable. I will be jumping around so fast, you'll think of me as a real life Captain Falcon. I'll be so fast, shining wont do anything.

EDIT: Eww.. Double Post.

What's left.. Oh! I'll use the Zapper. D:

And best continue using GC controls for tourneys. I get the feeling most of the casual tourney goers will probably stick to GC, ima 'try' Wii-Mote for the hell of it, but I hate getting new batteries and my GC controls still work fine.

well...tourneys(with multiple wiis in one room) are inpractical to begin with.
if youre going to do tourneys with brawl use wifi and freind codes for those who live far away,
or those who arnt useing your wii also.

Hopefully, Brawl doesn't make you do bowling motions.

I still disagree with banning Wiimotes. I can understand Wavebird since it is exactly the same control sceme as the regular Gamecube controller, but this isn't the same thing with the Wiimote. People that prefer the Wiimote (sideways and with Nunchuck) or the Classic Controller shouldn't have to switch to a control sceme that they aren't as familiar with. Just seems unfair to me.

(1) -- It isn't set it stone yet, so don't fret.
(2) -- If it were, we would announce it long before tournaments began, so players would have ample preparation time.
(3) -- How did you survive Melee?

I want to support all control schemes, but that just might not be possible if sync issues add 20 minute delays between matches. I understand that many of you have proven how 'simple' it can be, but many tournament-goers are quite incompetent. >_<
