I think nintendo will put a gamepad mode in just because they are struggling so much to "justify the gamepad"
im not sure exactly what it could be, but maybe a sort of adventure mode where one player can use the gamepad to assist the characters a bit, by placing platforms or using items.

Or maybe a set of event matches that require gamepad use, either one player and one gamepad, or one player soley using the gamepad, maybe there is a CPU fighter and you play as bosses using the gamepad

A grand Adventure mode that assembles a team of heroes, villains and whatnot, all fighting againist a common enemy to save their universes in an epic, cinematic story that tugs at the heart strings of any real Nintendo fan.

...oh wait :(

Looking at the depth of the customization of characters (alternate moves, equipments and stats raises), I believe we will have something like Smash Run on the WiiU. Maybe a adventure mode similar to melee and brawl, but with less story and more content.

I myself is looking for a mode similar to The Great Cave Adventure of the Kirby SuperStar. It's a mode where all the maps are linked and you go trough all the places killing monsters and get treasures and fighting bosses. It fits the 'arcade' feeling and the usage of the customization.

I mean, if he could take inspiration in Kirby Air Ride to make Smash Run, he could make a Great Cave Adventure as well.

I'm hoping that if there is any sort of adventure mode, the gameplay will be better than SSE. The only good things about SSE were the cutscenes and most of the boss fights. The cinematics would get me so pumped, but then as soon as the gameplay started it became a slow-paced chore to get to the next cutscene.

Melee's adventure mode, though it had no clear story, felt a lot more organic and fun. I don't think it was just because of the strictly Nintendo-themed levels, rather it was because it didn't take itself too seriously. Also, it had the appeal of presenting identical challenges in a short repeatable sequence so that you could easily play the whole thing multiple times while experimenting with different characters and developing strategies as you become familiar with the levels.

I'd like to see more of that in 4

Still hoping my coined "Super Smash World" Game Mode idea gets into the Wii U version. I can dream. :V

I don't think that they'll add gamepad functionality just to add gamepad functionality. The Wii remote wasn't used for everything in Brawl except for an optional shake smash function.

With Nintendo trying to hype up gamepad use in their games I'm sure Smash would have been the perfect showcase to build hype if they were actually going to use it. I doubt we get anything that uses the gamepad.

If they do adventure mode in Smash 4 for WiiU they could nake it so one person uses the gamepad and the other uses a TV screen for free roaming.

I believe Nintendo will show off more in September's Direct, as they promote the 3DS sales: and then the November Direct will be ALL about Smash Wii U, a month before the release.

Back in Brawl, I thought of all the good game modes because I had more free time to think about it (Back then, almost no one else expected a stage builder) but now, I don't have as much time to think about how the series progresses forward as much as Sakurai does.

Easily stage builder would be the exclusive mode for wii u.

But a 5 player mode could be possible for the exclusive mode.

I actually want to know why people think that Stage Builder would be exclusive? I'm sure it could be done with the 3DS as well. Possibly less stages to be saved but still.

What's that? If you don't mind
It's just an idea I'd love to see in the Wii U version, and it would completely cement the game as my favourite Smash game.

Basically, you know how we aren't getting a story in this game?
And you know how people eat up full length Mario platformers regardless of whether or not they have any real story elements?

Well, why not just make this grand scale adventure mode - that has no story?

Picture this...

...except every world is based off of a represented Nintendo franchise. And you have a party of up to four characters on screen at any one time (meaning four players can also play).

The main levels would play much like the Subspace Emissary levels, but of course, they would be based off a level from the franchise the world it's in represents.

So like "World 1" could be the Mushroom Kingdom, with Mario themed levels, "World 2" could be Hyrule with Zelda themed levels, etc.

There would be about 3 or 4 levels for the bigger franchises like Mario and Zelda, and 1 or 2 for the smaller ones.

And as well as levels, there would be some bosses, and enemy road blocks. Another idea I have, to help expand the overall scale of the map, is to integrate "Event Matches" from past games, into this mode. They could be hidden about the map in secret locations or whatever, and they would take place on the regular versus stages, like in past Smash games.

There would also be RPG elements. Basically, take the stat boosts and such from Smash Run on the 3DS, as well as stuff like the equipment and Powers, but make the stat boosts a customisable variable from the World Map screen. Depending on the character's level, they have more points to spend on boosting their speed, defense, power, etc.

The way I see it, Smash 3DS has a Subspace-esque, RPG-lite mode in Smash Run. Only, it's small scale, and it's competitive.

However, this mode would take some elements and assets from Smash Run (like enemies and the red doors from Subspace), and put them in a huge game mode for Wii U. And instead of being competitive, it would be co-operative.

Oh, and of course, it would be online.

Another thing about a huge mode like this, is that it would make Amiibos even more useful, so you can save your Super Smash World customisation, and take it to your friend's house.

...Now I want to make a logo for this thing.

It wouldn't be just to add gamepad functionality: honestly, that sounds not only really fun, but a great way to involve people who don't care to play Smash (or at least on a serious level). A gamepad mode essentially gives a fifth player agency within the game without caring about having to win or lose.

One of the reasons the Wii U hasn't been faring well is because it hasn't convinced consumers of its gamepad gimmick. Smash 4 would be a perfect opportunity to sell the idea of asymmetric gaming without being forced.

EDIT: Also, people could stop complaining about Ridley not being playable. haha

If they can find a way to make it work, I bet they'll do it. I just don't see them adding gamepad functionality just to say that there's gamepad functionality in a similar vein to Sakurai not wanting to shoehorn motion controls in Brawl.

...Wait a second, why are we even discussing this? Amiibos prove that gamepad functionality exists at this point. How did I forget about that?

A cool "Gamepad Mode" would be where 4 Players fight, but Player U will be able to drop items (out of the ones selected in the Items Switch menu) to the players, and could be REALLY troll-y if you just dropped Bob-Ombs ontop of the players.

3DS can use Amiibo too, but not immediately after release. Apparently they need some sort of accessory for the Amiibo to be placed atop to function with the 3DS. :T

I'm not an RPG guy, but I could definitely see this working. Especially with the moveset customizations, this would fit in so perfectly. The last world could expand on the battlefield/final destination scenery from the past games, with wireframes and metal fighters and whatnot, all leading up to Master Hand.
Or whatever, I'm not going to try and adopt your mind-baby or anything. I like the world map concept, I just hope they don't scrap the idea because it's too similar to currently existing mario games.

Again, this has no hint at actually happening. It's just a pure pipe dream. I would be ecstatic if it did happening though.
