I have purchased two VC games (Mario Kart 64 and Lylat Wars), both of which are multiplayer. I have 4 gamecube controllers and one classic controller. I know that classic controllers take priority for 1st player but no matter where i put the other gamecube controllers, they don't get recognised. I have tried only using the gamecube controllers and can't get off the screen that says "you will need a classic controller for this game". Has anyone else had the same problem or do you know how to fix this? Help greatly appreciated. Psy.

I responded to this thread when you posted it before:

Are you sure you're putting the controllers in the right spots? I had the same problem with DKC, and then I realised that the way I position my Wii (with the wires on the left and the buttons/disk on the right) has the Gamecube slots upside down, so what I thought was the first controller was actually the fourth...
Check the slots, are the dots on the slot on top or on the bottom (or, better yet, read the dots).

Try this, if I doesn't work, return...

Have you actually tried to play the game with the GCN controllers? Specifically, you just push A for Mario Kart 64 when it says "You need a classic controller for this game." So long as the controller is in port 1.

I don't understand the exact problem here; I have three N64 games downloaded and they all work with my GCN controllers. The only things I can suggest...
- Make sure the controllers are plugged in correctly. Specifically plug them in order (Port 1>Port 2>Port 3>Port 4)
- If using a wireless controller, make sure you're using the correct wireless settings from controller-receiver.
- Delete VC game, then redownload (doesn't cost anything extra)
- Get new GCN controllers
