WHY would they even think of taking out characters??

I mean come on, no one really desirves to be taken out. Sure clones like Dr Mario and Young Link have the same moves, but their physics are completely different, in turn making them unique. Besides every character has at least one person who loves playing that character and taking them out would only make some people mad, and possibly lose money. So WHY would they even think about taking out characters?? Who in the first place even thought of that? Why not just keep everyone add in a **** load of new characters and everyones happy. And then theres these people who think adding 3rd party characters would lose them money. No way, just think of all the Halo fans you can attract to the Wii by adding master chief or the covenant. Or Final fantasy fans by adding Aaron. Kingdom hearts fans by adding sora? If they did so, they could probably even raise the price of the game and it wouldnt matter to players! They could make brawl one of the biggest games in history.

Pichu maybe not... However GAW and ICs had unique movesets unlike the clones.

Also there are tons of Kid Icarus fans out there that so badly want another game. Kid Icarus deserves another chance. Besides, just having Pit in the game will please the fans, I'd say. Sakurai knows what he's doing.

Disc space is limited. I've no idea how much a character takes up but with decent quality meshing and texturing it's quite an amount. Bear in mind you've got to fit on stages, items, menus, all the underlying engine coding, story modes, an intro movie, probably a trophy gallery, and music, and that results in there being a lot less space than you'd think for characters.

Still, I reckon we could get 35 or so characters on before it gets a little cramped.

WHY? Why do only characters released in the last year have any right to be in Brawl? Logic is flawed, and boring.

And really, characters need to be taken out to make room for others. I'd rather see Captain Olimar than Dr. Mario, y'know what I mean? Sometimes you've just got to cut your losses and look to the future. And Dr. Mario will live on as a Mario costume anyway, I guarantee it.

I think Roy will be out (now there's a new powerful swordsman: Ike), Pichu (he/she was a 'joke' character, and it should be a new pokemon instead him/her), Dr Mario (c'mon, he can be an alt costume)
Also, IMO, GW and ICs will stay in Smash, cuz they have unique movesets and they are unique characters

Regardless of disk space, balance and AI create a lot of work for each character they add. No matter how many sales of the game they get, they still have to limit their expenses and give it a reasonable release window.

When it comes down to limited space, would you rather have young link or Ridley? Pichu or Sonic? They have to draw the line somewhere.

Now, if this was another GC smash, they could just copy over old characters (with perhaps some minor tweaking of numbers), but it isn't.

Remember, change is good, and you make a good point about losing money from cutting them, but then you could say that they could make more money if you add characters that have more of a fan-base than the ones that are being cut.

I have less of a problem with Link/Young Link because they're at least different "forms" of each other—they have different body types. But Doc is literally Mario with a stethoscope around his neck. Sure, he plays slightly differently from Mario, but not drastically enough to keep him as a whole other character.

Everyone else, I'm fine with. And yeah, I'll even miss Pichu if he/she goes.

Side note: I would barf out my organs in ecstasy if Sora made it in the game. But, he won't.

That's over the top. Mario and Dr. Mario, yes. However Fox and Falco are completely different characters, as well as Captain Falcon and Ganondorf. Ganondorf deserves a new moveset.

Yo i thought about what you said and i did a test on Mario & Doc. First of all. Doc's moves are stronger than mario's though they seem exact. And i made them ffight both lvl 9's... no items, at battlefield... And guess who won? Dr. Mario 3 out of 3. i would calll mario the true clone.

Actually it not rediculas... I'm saying instead of making all these diff characters.. .they can be costumes. They could take away from the color and make them people with simalar playing styles. Ganondorf can't be a Falcon costume. Any alternate costumes that drastically changes a person's character size is a bad one. If Pikachu had a Pichu costume, he'd lose half the size making him harder to hit without losing anything in return.

It's really unrealistic to keep a character that has almost 0 fan base outside of smash. The point is that quantity over quality wins here because Nintendo needs to make a profit. More characters = more fans. More fans = higher sales = bigger revenue.

Alternate costumes HAVE to be very similar. If they aren't, the smallest alternate costume would always be picked.
