Even with brawl out which I play I still get out my 64 and play this one. Give me some reasons why you guys thing this game still rocks as opposed to the Brawl game. I love it and I know you guys love it but why?

You see, there is some genious stuff that is created once in a while.
Very often, the creators do a second part that sometimes is very good too.
Also often (if the second part is good) they do a third part that is usually NOT good.

But the first is almost always the genious one and unbeaten by their sequels.

This can be applied for a lot of games aswell as movies.

IMO smash creators should have done like Pro Evolution Soccer. Take the SSB64 and make an evolution of it, not radical changes like they did.

I see your point but i like the brawl game. I understand where your coming from but since they got brawl online now its just something worth wild

Smash64 is just so memorable for me that I have some kind of emotional attachment to it. Even though I don't have a N64 I still have this game (box and all)!:)

Edit: I really love the stages in this game. Saffron, Hyrule, and Peach's castle are some of the best stages in all smash.

I like it do to that overall...the game is balanced (besides pika xD)...and also because it has better online (in emulated version) than brawl . I do like melee more but i play smash 64 more or sometimes brawl because my friends play those games and because melee does not have wifi.

^^ Give peek a cookie.

64 has combos and a crappy shield. I like the crappy shield. Also, 64 has emulated online so Brawl having WiFi isn't a point in competion [except that 64's online is better].

And Mario doesn't suck in 64.

64 is cool since it has longer hitstun, and captain falcon is in it, and uh... combos... better SFX, better graphics (asthetically speaking from my opinion)

Basically I love the ridiculous combos. Oh and the high learning curve, and how **** difficult it is to DI properly (for me anyway)

I still can't DI. I need to practice it but people complain about lag so I need to wait for when my brother isn't home [when I'm on the computer he plays DS WiFi and uses the Wii browser] or when I get my laptop and play in school. =/

And I have to play people capable of comboing but there seems to be so few.

I agree on the graphics part. The first time you return to Melee after Brawl the game's graphics looks like garbage, and you have to at least have some talent to enjoy it again. 64 has it's own visual charm.

888 posts and the Brawl FC from Day 1 is still there. Meh, might as well leave it.

alright I'll tell you why:
1) its incredibly well balanced and every character can be played masterfully/competitively
2) all the stages (besides samus map) aren't intrusive to game play and are for the most part balanced
3) the items are **gasp** fun and you can play with them on without them controlling the game (I don't usually play items but you can)
4) Z-canceling makes for awesome combos and fast game play
5) No tripping or wavedashing (my two biggest dislikes of the other games)

anybody wanna add to my list?

Don't know about you guys but after like an hour playing melee i'm already tired of it. And I can play SSB64 for a lot of hours and not getting any tired.

Ed: One of the best things in this game is that its great fun in both noob level and pro level.

The game is awesome because it's SO full of bull**** that when you sit down and play with a friend you can laugh about how dumb it is.

That's the best.

Also, if you have good tech skill, ssb gives you the most options to be creative about comboing out of the 3. In no way do you actually have to do cool combos to do well, you can just do the dumb repetitive ones, but that's something else that makes the game fun.

I think I like Brawl more than the others. I haven't really played much of Melee to really get into it. I do still enjoy playing SSB64 though. :}

I remember the first time I ever played SSB... I couldn't put the controller down.

Earth, right?
Ease of connecting combos, and is the prime basic of it all

First time played I played nothing else for 4 months. Oh and what I love also in some occasions is throwing a beam sword or bat out into the ends of the stage and whacking people to prevent them from coming back...

Never gets old :chuckle:

O how true is that. I do that every time I play the games with my friend and they get so angry over it

brawl is fun at times but it gets boring fast. melee is fun but im not too much of the competitive type so i mainly play it casually w/ friends (doin the techs and all). 64 is just awesome cuz its fun even when u suck at it and when ur good at it. the online is better than brawls.

I might like melee/brawl better if it didn't use the gc controller, 64 is always going to be my favourite though.
Lol you kept telling me melee is worse than 64 for many reasons lol.

And now I agree!

Mostly since online means not leaving my house or girlfriend to play smash or buying a wii. I never got one and after the brawl fiasco Im glad to stick with my ps2 n64 and super nintendo. and PC obviously

edit :

Items are so much better / fun to play with in ssb64

SFX are better (explosion!)

Hit noises, combos, hitstun (drools)

Only thing missing is that captain falcon is arguably cooler in melee (Knee)

but Taunt cancelling for falcon makes up for that.

Typing like this is annoying.

I remember when you said Melee was the greatest game in the world and assumed 64 sucked without trying it. :p Good times. Remember rolls being completely broken and you can just roll the entire match?

Also, after playing Brawl, Melee's graphics looks bad. I can get past that and play, but SSB64 still looks nice.

U joking? C Falcon 64 >>> C Falcon Melee.

Ok, there's the Knee in Melee but in the 64 Falcon is... is... simply one word: COMBO!!!
