ive seen alot of complaints saying that matches take way too long in sm4sh and that offensive play isn't rewarding enough so i just thought that cranking up the damage ratio would be enough solve these problems

(but then again this might an uninformed statement since i'm kinda sorta nooby:ohwell:)

i can get beside the fact some people wouldn't feel comfortable with the play style this change would offer but then again smash 64 has a slow neutral based gameplay and crazy knockback but it still has a pretty satisfied community

personally i always play with 1.5 damage ratio with my friends but then again i never attended a tournament before

It's a bad idea. The game is balanced for 1.0 damage ratio, changing that could lead to 0-death combos or Infinite combos, and since balance patches are never geared towards alternate damage ratios, these combos or infinites will never get removed. It would also make the game more balanced towards certain characters like sheik, who is supposed to be a very good character who has trouble killing. If she didn't have trouble killing she'd be totally broken. Beyond that, this actually encourages more campy slow play, increasing the damage ratio will make it even more risky to approach the opponent since being punished for it could mean death. Not to say the game would suck with higher damage ratio, but it's definitely a step in the wrong direction.

Long story short.. the game was designed and balanced with 1.0 damage ratio in mind, and will continue to receive balancing geared towards 1.0.

now i see thanks for the feedback :) i always enjoy being proven wrong it just goes to show how much there is to learn

anyway should i keep playing with 1.5 ratio with my friends or not ? as i'm slowly trying to get more serious and attend tourneys once i feel i'm good enough

If that's what you have fun doing. But if you want to get seriously good, and get competitive you might want to stick with 1.0. It will get you more used to combos. Ideally you want to get good at whatever set of rules the tournament is using, generally the player with the best understanding of that mode will win the most. Switching from 1.5 to 1.0 for a tournament would throw me off completely, it would build a lot of bad habbits that are hard to break. Although occasionally i'll play lightning speed smash just to get a little more used to quick button inputs. But mostly stick to 1.0 i'd say.

Topics like these you could find a lot of things about just by searching for threads. I would doubt most rule set ideas have not been thought of at least once before, especially if it's explicit in-game option based.

Anyway you probably got the gist of it already, but this topic can probably end here for now.
