First things first, I'm the realest I'm excited for this mode as well as for the rest of the game. However, I don't see why this particular game mode gets special recognition by Nintendo and is praised by fans.

I'll enjoy all the cameos from multiple franchises that it brings with it, but besides that I don't really see the draw. The power-up battles at the end will be fun a handful of times, but I don't see myself investing too much more time here than I will in the bomb mini-game. That's not to say I won't have fun wrecking my friends with a Bowser that run at the speed of Sonic. :awesome:

So, why will you enjoy Smash Run? I'm not looking for convincing of its merits nor am I trying to downplay what it is; I'm genuinely curious as to you like (or don't like) this mode.

I actually don't like Smash Run as much as most people. Most of the time I usually just stick to normal smash battles. But, I still will play Smash Run, I just think it's very creative.

I don't see the huge appeal. I'm a bit of a competitive player so I don't see myself playing it very much.

I'd rather just get into a normal battle of skill, than do a side scrolling mini game for power ups before a fight, seems like it'll take less skill (or maybe a little more since you might not have as many power ups as your opponent) but that makes it more unpredictable, and not in a way that I like.

Because the people who are most excited for it are the ones who spent hours on Kirby Air ride's city trial mode with friends (Like myself) when they were younger. And seeing a new mode on smash which is a throwback to that mode gets us really excited just thinking about it. Knowing Sakurai, there's still probably a bunch of other events and competitions at the end of the 5 minute run which will really diversify the experience and make it feel completely different - in a good way - every time you play. Now if only there were some more maps to choose from... DLC maybe? :p

I'm surprised some people don't like the mode. I like how it doesn't look like a boring old SSE 2.0. They are using Enemies from different series, and the power-ups seem very fun to collect.

It's not that some of us don't like it, we just don't think it's like the best thing ever to happen to smash.

And it isn't. Btw, Do You think the Wii U Version will have something bigger and better? That deals with the Gamepad?

What does this have to do with the thread?

OT: I'm gonna blunt and honest right here, the mode is basically party mode nothing more its decent not gonna lie but it really isn't something people should hype about to the point where they include this mode as a list of why this game is so great.

Its just a party mode just because its something never seen before people already blowing this out of the water, OP you're the same as me, this is just another mode on another game but people acting like its a gift given by God.

I was just asking him, yah know.....,but yeah I should've asked this in a convo or something.
Sakurai said that he won't do anything new with gamepad, but I'm sure the WiiU will have something.
Oh.

It's basically City Trial with Smash Bros' roster. That's reason enough.

But more generally, I do enjoy the variety that comes from the powerups and endgame fights, and will enjoy the break from the general tryharding my friends and I will probably spend a lot of time doing otherwise.

It's something that makes so much sense but no one thought of.

And it's going to be fun as hell.

City Trial in Kirby's Air Ride was a ridiculous amount of fun with friends and hearing about Smash Run in the Smash Direct was pretty much the best news for me.

It makes for a pretty fun and random single player mode for Smash 3DS with lots of variety, which makes it great when you're actually playing it on the go.

As far as the demo and direct have shown, it looks like a great way to gather collectables as well.

I'm still hoping for online confirmation, as well as the Wanted events to be more popular, to provide more opportunities for fighters to meet up with each other - attacking people in Kirby's Air Ride or destroying their machines was one of the most exciting and frustrating things.

Because it's a mode that will be robust in singleplayer, and really fun in multiplayer.

People might say it's just a party thing but there is a lot of potential strategy here. It also feeds into the games economy very well and seems like a actually fun way of grinding.

Because it's SSE's replacement and isn't hogging development.

That and it's the SSE squished into a timed mode with a few gimmicks in. I like that.

honestly because there is balls all to do at work so a 5 minute game will be perfect for a quick sit and play while im waiting for something to do (honestly a 5-9 shift i dont start working till 7 its annoying)

It just looks really fun to play and gives Sakurai a reason to show off enemies from different franchises (Kremlings!!!!).

I'm in a similar boat, OP. To me, it looks like a more entertaining variation of the Subspace Emissary and little more. I don't want to talk down about it; I'm sure many will enjoy it. I just don't particularly care for it.

There could be a MiiVerse post next week saying, "Nevermind, we eliminated Smash Run from the game entirely," and I wouldn't be fazed.

But it would represent something - and that is that nothing is final and Sakurai will go back on definite words.

That's... true, but it was also an impossible hypothetical situation I crafted for the sake of making a point.

...**** it, let's roll with it. What else could Sakurai suddenly eliminate for the sake of reminding us who's boss? My first guess would be anything Donkey Kong related.

I like it because it's an easy-looking quickish mode to play when I don't feel like just doing a match. It looks extremely fun to play.

I can see why people don't care, though.

Yeah, gonna have to agree with Gepona here. Almost 90% (if not all) of the people who are excited for this mode are the ones who have come to love Kirby Air Ride from years back. (which includes me) I mean, come on, Kirby Air Ride with Smash Bros characters! Heck yes!

Also I think most of you guys are over exaggerating how much we are excited for this. We're not "praising the gods" or whatever, it's just really cool. And yes, it is a party mode, and something I will often come back to just to take a small break from all the competitive-ness of Smash.

One of the selling points for me is how silly it can be at times. Just thinking of seeing a Bowser dash across the entire screen in 0.8 seconds makes me laugh. Or maybe a single buster shot from Mega Man KO someone. Or seeing Fox's laser deal 20% in one shot. :awesome:

When this mode was announced, I felt like Sakurai read one of my older posts in another board and made my wish come true! :D Since the announcement of the 3DS version for Smash Bros. one of the first thing I've imagined was a City Trial-like mode taking advantage of the 3DS' portability. This triggered my hype to unimagninable levels.

But the best thing is the enemy roster, it's exactly what people were expecting from Brawl's Subspace Emissary back in 2008, enemies gathered from various Nintendo universes. Here in Smash Run, enemies are making a role that makes this mode BETTER than the original City Trial.

Kremlings. ****ing Kremlings.

The other real answer is that it reminds me of City Trial, only with Smash, and looks like something that will be alot of fun to play with my friends, or even just by myself. It's fun to think of different enemies from Nintendo's history that could appear there, and I'm sure it'll be fun to play over and over just like City Trial was.

...Except this time instead of just playing as Kirby, I can play as so many of my actual favorite characters. Nothing against Kirby, he's just not in my top 10.

Plus, I think it'll be amusing to watch someone like Little Mac get 100+ Power, and then just instantly wreck every ***** ever in the vs. match.

I loved City Trial back in the day, so it's awesome to see it finally get a sequel of sorts, and get mashed up so perfectly with the Smash mechanics and Subspace-esque map.

Plus, the fact that you can gain stats by doing actions a lot, not just picking up boosts, means that you can hopefully actively gear your build toward a specific end event, which I think was the biggest thing City Trial lacked (the best you could really do was switch vehicles at the end of a match, and that was pretty luck-dependent).

I like Smash Run because of the enemies, in fact that's the only reason I'm interested in Smash Run and it's why I'd appreciate some kind of survival/time attack kind of mode where the objective is to kill every enemy on the map, I don't care for the mini-games after every 5 minutes.

For me it is the City Trial influence and all the enemies from actual IPs.

What I want to know is, where are you guys seeing ANYONE say that this is the best thing to ever happen to Smash?

People are excited because it's new, and something else to do aside from the monotony of fights. Of course it is a party mode, it's half party game. It combines everything.

I don't think anyone sincerely thinks that this is THE most important update. It's just that it lends itself to a portable SSB, since everyone has their own screen for it. And people who are nostalgic for City Trial understandably love it because it's great with friends.

Not to mention the fact SSB is a celebration of Nintendo, and it shows through the enemies, with actually using them from Nintendo games, instead of just Subspace Army nonsense.

People put it on the list of reasons to be excited about SSB3D because it -is- a reason, among many others.

I really feel bad for people who can *only* enjoy one mode in SSB and don't understand people getting excited about all the different things the game has to offer so you can enjoy it in different ways to mix it up. The people who think "mixing it up" is just playing a character they don't main.

It looks like a fun little mode that'll be used mainly for the purpose of grinding, though multiplayer could definitely extend play time of Smash Run. The appeal I find in it is that instead of the boring SSE enemies, we've got all these memorable ones from the actual series' to beat to a pulp. Has a lot of replayability to it. In the end though we'll all be running back to our normal matches. :p

You're assuming too much about people. I understand fully why someone would be excited for Smash Run. I'm not excited. A game doesn't need to be "mixed up" for it to be enjoyable. (In fact, I could cite a rather long list of games that tried to "mix it up" and ended up bringing down the overall product as a result, not that this applies to Smash Run.)

I play Smash for its competitive fighter value. I can play 1v1, 2v2 or FFA matches all day long. I don't need, nor do I want, any other modes. They'll be included, sure. People will like them, sure. There's nothing wrong with that, just like there's nothing wrong with me ignoring them because I don't care for them. Let people play what they want to play.

I'm excited for it because it's something new to me. I never played Kirby Air Ride (unfortunately), but I love the concept for the mode and can't wait to give it a try. That said, everything we've seen so far suggests that once the 5 minutes are up you'll just be automatically thrown into a 1-minute random rules match. I'd really like it if they gave you a bit more choice regarding the final match. It'd be nice to have the choice to extend the match or play a few matches with the character you built up. But even if they don't include that it'll still be great fun.

Wow...I have to admit that I was not excited for Smash Run. But this talk about City Trial just induced hype. I plugged too many hours into City Trial and trying to complete all of its challenges. Hopefully Smash Run will have its own set of challenges like that.

I must say that you all have gotten me more excited for it too with all this talk about City Trial. My brother and I used to play that for hours.

If there're cool challenges as well as ways to interact with one another (with sabotage) then it'll be much more appealing to me.

This might sound snobby of me, but it will be a great way to play with my friends of different skill levels. I could go through and collect mostly speed tokens with sonic, and if the final event is a race, yeah, everyone is screwed. But if it's just a regular smash fight on battlefield, all that speed doesn't really augment me as much as that little mac with beefy arm power powers. Or that well rounded bowser over there. I think the randomness really helps level the playing field, so I can play with my less skilled friends without feeling like a jerk, and maybe win an event against people who normally trounce me. I find that to be it's biggest draw personally.

I think I will like it because it's, in part, what SSE should have been: Nintendo (and not so Nintendo) characters fighting Nintendo enemies and bosses though 2D scenarios.

Random events and challenges have actually been confirmed for it, as far as I can remember. Even in the same style as the "timed stuff showing up and happening" way that it did in city trial! :awesome::awesome::awesome:
