Why do we need Amiibos to save AI data?

Amiibos are absolutely fantastic for fun casuals, I'll be getting one. But I don't know if I should get my own main character, I shouldn't practice ditto matchups. I'm really looking forward to Amiibos and hope they learn to the extent we think they do.
That's one thing I'm wondering about. Sakurai stated that we don't need to collect all the Amiibo figures for Smash. Say that I have the Marth Amiibo, would the Amiibo fighter be restricted to just Marth? Or could I choose another character for it and the skill will just carry over?

Good question, if it was the later one I could just buy the coolest looking figurines and try out numerous Amiibos.

Yes, the Marth Amiibo would be restricted to Marth, so if you wanted to have custom A.I. for every character you would need to buy every Smash Amiibo

I'm sure these adaptive AI's will be amiibo exclusive, yeah.

It is a business unfortunately.

I see... Well I don't mind buying multiple figurines (totally not buying all of them though). But then there's the process of training each Amiibo starting from Level 1 each time.
I suppose it makes sense.

I hope they add an option to save your custom loadout into these amiibos (I.e. your custom movesets, name, and control setup). The only issue I see is that the custom moves are unlockable, but maybe they can be programmed to go to the default special move if they are not available on the specific wii u?

My two cents:

I like Amiibos but won't use them for what they're supposed to be used for (in smash anyway). Unless one day I decided to train one of them to a high level to train against it.

If you don't like it or are terribly against it, don't use it. There's literally no downside to you ignoring its existence.
I just want to collect them, personally.
