Why do people want characters removed?

I see no logic in it, as it only spawns mindlessness and sheer stupidity. My question is: "What drives people to so far past the point of insanity that they do not want to see a given character return for SSBB?"
My opinion is: If you don't like a character, then then don't use him/her/it/bob

Yeah im pretty much the same with you. If its possible I want the clones changed a bit, but they can still be in. The people like Mewtwo and Ice Climbers have no reason to go. I main Game and Watch, but people REALLY want him to leave, just because they suck with him. Im actually good with him. Game and Watch gallery was also the first video game I ever played so it holds a dear spot in my heart.

Cause Dr.Mario is just Mario with a doctor's suit character wise. Ingame, they differ slightly, but they are by far the most alike characters which is no wonder... They're the same person. And the fact that Doc might be a little better in Melee than Mario says nothing about Brawl, even if Doc were to return, he'd probarly play different than he did in Melee. So there you have it, a pointless character.

This sort of thing is hardly limited to Smash Brothers. Even if something makes perfect sense to you, not everyone is going to see it that way. Serriously do you expect anyone to explain to you why thousands of gamers complain about things that should be removed because it's annoying, or it's ugly, or it's cheap, or it's stupid, or it's lame or just about any other reason that might exist? Things change, and not all change involves more things being added.

It's not a rumor. It was a response made by Sakurai during his 'poll' on the first Japanese Smash Brothers Website. Samurai Panda Translated it, but I don't know where the thread with the translation is at the moment.

I honestly can't see Dr. Mario returning in Brawl because they could just give Mario a Dr. Mario alt costume.

I don't like getting rid of characters. But what needs to be done needs to be done.

I don't want to see Falco, G&W, and Ice Climbers go even though I only Falco out of them. Its both a slap in the face and not very creative if they were to just change costume (Ex: pick Fox then change costume to Falco)

People want to get rid of characters because they could just be a bad character choice in general. Pichu is a good example I guess.

i get most of it but explain sheik. sheik is a unique character unlike all the clones.

The first is Pichu. I hate him and never wanted him in Melee. He's an unoriginal, weak, and pathetic version of Pikachu and I hope he doesn't even return in Brawl (not even as an AT).

I thought that Pichu had a special ability that increased the damage it dished out depending on how much damage Pichu itself had taken?

However, I would have to argue that Young Link is pointless, considering the sheer amount of sword-wielders that we do know of. He doesn't have any real special ability that I know of, other than the flaming arrows and the fact that he is lighter than his older "brother." Considering that Sheik and Zelda are essentially the same character, and there hasn't been any real reason to cut Zelda so far, I believe that Sheik will stay. Roy, I can't argue for or against because I don't know that much about him.

Also, for my own opinion - Game and Watch and Ice Climbers will most likely leave our midst. Ice Climbers... weren't that good in my opinion, and Game and Watch seemed to be more of a gimmick to me.

The only person I could see leaving is Sheik. I have no qualms against Sheik. He, the Ice Climbers, and Jigglypuff are my mains. But he's using Twilight Princess Zelda, and it doesn't make sense to create a Twilight version of Sheik when he never was in that game to begin with.

Although, another possible, and more appropriate thing that could happen is that Sakurai could just make Sheik his own character without the transformation.

i believe it's because characters like pichu,Dr.mario, and falco aren't what they are expected to be and they are so close to the mains of that franchise that it's just dissapointing.

Like Dr. mario what is the need to make him exactly like mario i know that his cape is longer and that his >smash is stronger but that means close to nothing because it basicly like playing like mario


Then pichu is faster and weaker than pikachu then he gets hurt when he uses his thunder there are so many thunder attacks. what was the need to give him the same ones as pikachu?

falco is one of my mains but i sometimes wish that he could be different than the actual mains of the franchise. Cause thta just makes them cheap clones and i think thats were the issue is at

Roy being in Melee before his home series is cool IMO. He should be like the final boss of the game, having an obscene handicap 10x that of the Cruel Melee Wire Frames.
That aside, it's back to my supporting statement on not removing characters:
Why remove them when you can just change a move or two? (ie Luigification)

because nobody over the age of 7 plays as pichu, well, actually nobody plays as pichu.

Even if there were no benifits to having pichu out of the game, I'd still want him out. Even if he wasn't replaced at all. Just out, because he's clutter. He's like spam email. No one reads it, and when they do, they get a virus.

Some characters can be changed, like Falco and Ganondorf.

The ones that really are clones should be taken out. (Dr. Mario, Young Link)
The bad characters that really screwed up the list should go too (Roy, Pichu)

And with Ike in, I wouldn't miss Marth at all.

Yeah, Roy should be removed but I'd rather have him than Doc and Pichu.

Still, there are better FE characters out there (and Sakurai showed us Ike).

Because, I want certain characters to leave because they don't bring anything new to the roster.

Young Link - Clone, and he looks so much like the normal Link, that it is sometimes hard to distinguish between the two characters.

Pichu - Clone, and it hurts itself, so it is already an extremely poor character choice. And, we have Pikachu, who is an original, and is its evolved form, AKA, it's upgrade.

Dr. Mario - Clone, and he is Mario in a different outfit. We could have included him with a costume change like the Peach/Daisy deal.

Marth and Roy - OK, this one is completely biased of me. I just think Ike and the Black Knight would be much more bad*** and cooler replacements, and I never had a strong liking for these two characters, they don't have a lot of personality.

So, IMO, Pichu, Young Link, and Doc NEED to leave.

But Sheik, I didn't mind. I mean, she was extremely overly powerful and unfair, but if she gets nerfed a little, she is still a cool addition.
People also seem to think that Ice Climbers and Mr. G&W should go, but they are two of the most original characters in the game, and they were a ton of fun to play.

Ice Climbers and Mr. Game & Watch were really fun to play as and if people want them out because they aren't good with them or just don't like how they look...then let's take out Mario, DK, Luigi, Bowser, Samus, Captain Falcon, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Kirby, Fox, Falco, Young Link, Roy, Dr, Mario, Pichu, Mewtwo...because I myself do not use them....so by that logic...they are a waste of space...

Young Link....I dunno...I want him in with his Wind Waker/Four Swords look...and with a different moveset than Link....

Roy was just in for promotion of Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals...that and he was a clone....and there are better Fire Emblem characters in the FE universe to include IMO...(I'm not gunna list all the FE ppl I want...)
If Marth leaves, even though I do use him...its only because he was so easy to pick up....if they replace Marth with another FE character I wont make a fuss...not like my opinion matters...but I hope he does stay since he was the first FE lord...

Dr. Mario....is just Mario in a Doctor's uniform....if they keep him in then we might as well make 2 different Warios....one in his yellow and purple outfit and the other Wario in his WarioWare outfit...we should also have like 8 different Links to represent each of his different looks...(TP Link, WW Link, Retro Young Link, Retro Older Link, ALttP Link, etc)...and we should also have a separate character slot made just for Dark Link too...I hope he leaves since IMO he is a waste of a character slot that should be occupied by someone else...they should just take the good from Doc and the good from Mario and mash it together for Brawl Mario...

Pichu is an inferior version of Pikachu....thats like if Sakurai put himself in the game....and made Baby Sakurai to represent baby Japanese people....Oh and btw Baby Sakurai hurts himself too...

I hope they Luigify Falco...I personally dont use him....but he should stay IMO...just as long as he isnt a clone...

As for Sheik...she should be in Brawl because they are only using the TP DESIGN...not the TP plot and all that stuff...besides...you know you wanna see Sheik as a brunette...

Ganondorf just needs his sword to escape clonedom....

Mewtwo. to put in other pokemon that are actually fun

Most people dont like characters to return just because they didnt used/liked them

In my opinion clones dont deserve to come back, why? cause they were not original characters, but marth, mewtwo and g&w were original, they are not clones, they are smash brothers XD so they should come back like luigy, jiggly, ness and falcon came back for melee... but then again, i dont think they will cut ganondorf, so who knows

And about ur last line, yes, u dont like someone u just dont use him, and i guess thats what everyone does, cause i guess that theres always a character u dont like, but, instead of havin a pichu or dr. mario in brawl, wouldnt u like to see some new characters in the place they used to be?? im guessing yes

Dr. Mario, he was okay, but he was pretty much just filler, Mario in a Doctor outfit, do what they did for Nurse Peach, alternate costume.

Pichu, What the hell was Sakurai thinking?

Roy, Marth is the most important character to the FE series, Roy wasn't even released when Melee came out.

Young Link: Add WW Link, Young Link just doesn't work.
