Why Challonge?

Hellos,

I am wondering what are the thoughts behind why Challonge is being used AND why it's being used over TIOPro?

I've tried it myself and wasn't very impressed besides the online live view. Then again, I'm not impressed with TIOPro ever since it went 2.0.

I'm curious what other people's thoughts are on this.

Is that a recent thing? I didn't run into that, but then it's been a year since I 've ran anything on my own.

Being online is it's strongest suit. It allows Multiple TOs to constantly be updating the bracket without crowding around 1 computer. If one TO comp goes down you have multiple backups and nothing is lost. It also is better for non TOs and those at the event to view the bracket.

I'm assuming you meant Challonge not TO in that last statement right?
The tournament I went to in LA 2 weeks ago used Challonge as well for that very purpose you mentioned. There were mini "viewing stations" where anyone could look at a bracket for an event. It seemed very useful for that.

But then I still see that it can't do pools (or at least not well enough to use it's thing.)
So can I assume that with pool play, its done on paper or through TIO then the bracket part is in Challonge?

You can do pools, you need to manually do them though, to my knowledge, mayhaps there is a random generator, but I usually do RR pools by hand then bring it to challonge.

I'm not crying over the loss of round robin pools given all the problems they inherently have, so if it forces the community to not use RR pools, I see that as a plus lol

Yeah, I've come up with a solution to that which still uses round robin format.
