Why aren't there more game tournaments? I personally love them.

I have been to many tournaments for a variety of games and they are always exciting. Most had small prizes like a free controller and others gave cash prizes in the thousands of dollars. But even at the smaller scale tournaments I always found myself having a good time.

If there was a venue close to where you live that offered daily tournaments with cash prizes, how often would you go? For example: A 30min-2hr ***INSERT GAME NAME*** tournament with a $10 entry, and the winner gets $100, or another tournament where you pay $25 and possibly win $300?

Does this idea interest anyone? I could see myself going there almost every day. Especially if it was in a comfortable environment and they had the games I liked.

What do you think? Would this be a place you would go? What things you expect to see in a place like this?

What typically happens at least around my area is that for some reason a lot of gamer's won't enter tournaments for whatever reasons, even if they play the game periodically. The few that do enter, most of them quit during the tournament when they're losing and realize they're not the best. The rare that are really competitive striving to learn and be better and stick with it are typically less than the fingers on one hand. Tournaments aren't worth it for that many people, and the only chance at tournies is driving 3 hours for a couple tournies a year or 6 hours + for more periodic tournaments.

I think Daily tourney's would be too much. I know I wouldn't be able to go every day, because of School and work. Weekly's are even too much for me. I don't mind going to a small scale tourney at least once or twice a month.

As for attendance, it really depends on the area. Where I live, since the mothly tourney is so scarce, that we see almost everyone there. I think if there was a tourney every day, people would probably not show up since it's not as big anymore. Maybe if you did some kind of promotion once a month maybe that wouldn't be a problem. Like once a month you would match the pot or something.

Even us in the state of (uses Arnold Schwartenhaggaraggagoror voice) California can't go everyday. School, work, families, situations, life, and other things to do get in the way. Heck, I've been so busy I haven't gone to a tournament in a year, and it feels like last month I went to one.

Plus I don't think many smashers (or any competitive video game player) would be willing to put $280 to $310 dollars a month just into tournament entry. That's about $3,650 a year! Considering the average age of people who go to these tournaments is 14-24 (roughly), that's more than most of them make in a year.

Plus you (usually) gotta work hard at school and/or work just to be able to enjoy going to tournaments.

Edit: The key to facing someone really good is to live near a friend. Often really good players will play with their really good friends or siblings who live with them man times a week or month. You should definitely befriend people at tournaments if you want to do that.
