When i was about 6 years old, (lived in switzerland at the time) cousins from korea always would send me anime... (im half swiss and half south korean btw)
either its
A. naruto... it was pretty much just made... plus it was all in korean so my mom had to read it to me... but i wouldn't care since i alway read the action sequences...more like stared...

B. this very old anime show... i dont remember it... but it had bad quility... quite funny though

Anyhow, now im a little disappointed...

when i was about 12 i used to watch the naruto shippuden where the naruto characters are all grown up the korean version...
until i noticed america released an english naruto version starting all the way back from ep one! i decided to watch the video...
i watched it and i was horrified... the voices were scary! especially with naruto saying
believe it every, what? 5 seconds? i could of sworn the voice actor was 8...
(no offense)

at the same time people in my school began to draw anime... with even bigger eyes...
it was crazy! some even traced the anime, which ends up to look perfect and claim its their drawing... once someone traced one of my drawings, which i posted on a website, and said its theres that is until i told him it was mine and that she got it off my homepage...

im pretty much 99.99999999% sure people in your school, try to

look like an anime character (lots of hair gel going on)
act like one... (people in my school sit like L from deathnote... scares me and makes them look terribly stupid)
or draw them waaaaay to much... 24/7.... (even trace... which makes me mad! meh!)

So why you ask... why am i posting this? well because im asking why?
lots of whys? why...

Why is everyone... ahem... *most* people obsessed with this stuff? i stopped watching naruto now and im actually reading stuff like love hina and crap... plz dont google that...

NOTES!

Sorry if this offended some of you people...

please do not say you've liked anime since the 70's or something stupid like that...
unless you did, then atleast say it in a truthful manor... or actually just dont say it, people will you think you lie...

PLEASE!!! do not send me hate mail saying that i should burn in places that i wish to not be at... remember this is an opinion... opinions are ideas... ideas are a persons thoughts... so dont get all fire boiled mad at me?

thank you for taking your time and reading this ^_^

I've enjoyed all seasons of DragonBallZ and Dragonball GT.
Naruto so far is crappy as hell. Too much time gasping "Oh Sasuke, I want to suck your..." Spend like minutes circling a character with interesting music on the background. Developers are getting lazy.

Hellsign was cool.
Afro Samurai was cool. Very good animations for both<<<^^^^^^^^^.

Death Note is my favorite. Best deductive anime ever.

SPOILER: I think this belongs in the media section.

WARNING: If a lazy moderaTOR sees this thread, they'll probably close it instead of moving it. You've been warned:-p.

Anime weeaboos ruin anime for everyone else. My friend refuses to watch any anime because of the way most fans act. That's my biggest beef with anime: the fans.

amen. when i was younger, i was in love with dragonball (et al.) and pokemon (before gen II), and even now, i do like a few anime. but the childish obsession of otaku confounds many of us.

@ XZero BeatX: Dont give up, Naruto gets really awesome at the end of the main series. The beginning was crap, yes, lmao. But yeah, after a while Naruto stops shouting BELIEVE IT every ten seconds (which i could also explain if I werent lazy, lol). But yeah, episodes 100-135 or so are awesome. Everything after that is filler until shippuden, which is also way better.

its sad that so many people refuse to partake in things just because of an annoying fanbase. just because pokemon is a childish show doesnt mean playing the games should make you a little kid. pokemon is actually a very involved game with a complex battle system, and a more adult storyline than the anime. but SO many people i know would say "you play pokemon, thats a kids game, just look how dumb the cartoon is!"

/end rant, lol

but back to the main point, alwinroth, i think kids today are obsessed with anime because its unlike anything they experienced before hand. its the next generation jump. my generation was into the earlier anime shows and more of the 80's action (thundercats, voltron, original dragonball), and the generation before mine was more into comic book heroes and the cartoons they starred in (id also like to mention i love comics and their derivitave cartoons and movies as well though ^^;) and this generation is all about naruto and inuyasha and stuff. japanese entertainment slowly leaked into the american (and i guess european, you said you were swiss but i cant exactly vouch for how widespread anime is in europe) demographic, but now its very much a part of mainstream entertainment.

Or better yet, just download and watch the fansub translations. I almost never watch an anime in English.

Almost every kind of anime now burdens me; The vast majority of the fans are full of impulsiveness and conceit, just like their anime idols. In the last few years the only forms of anime I've liked have been found in RPGs like FFVII and the Kingdom Hearts series.

The usual reason why Naruto is considered to be hyped is because of how easy it is to find. And since it is different [all anime, too] than what people usually watch, they become interested, and become fans of it. IMO, Naruto is crap, especially with the voice actors and the graphics. I used to be a fan of it, but ever since it was released in America there were too many weaboos which ruined it.

In my school, barely anyone's like that. But once in a while, you'll see a guy with asian-looking hair [but they're asian, and I'm one of them]. But I know a few who draw quite a bit, and they're pretty good.

everyone likes boobs when you're 15
I'm 14, so I think it could be earlier than that. >.>

@ Livvers: same difference, lol. *also watched subbed japanese version* Naruto's voice is slightly less annoying in the original japanese, but it actually sounds almost the same to me xD

@ oi kyon: while i do think youre entitled to your opinion (im not contesting whether naruto is or isnt crap, because thats an opinion that will differ for everyone), you cant blame it on "weeaboos" that ruin it. Thats part of the whole problem I said before. Just because the fan base of something is generally stupid doesnt mean the product is equally stupid. I love death metal, but a lot of the people that listen to it are really pretentious and elitist about their music, and shun all other genres. But Im not like that, and I also dont let jerkoffs like that ruin my enjoymment of the music. Now if you really think Naruto is crap because of voice actors, etc. then all I can say is, to each their own, but I honestly think the series gets better with time, and I too think the beginning was crap, lol.

@ everyone in thread: everyone at all ages likes all boobs at every age forever. this also applies to girls. dont contest me on this. its a fact. look it up in your local scienceipedia. oh and gay dudes too, they secretly also like boobs :3

Heh, Zero Beat you have good taste. If you liked Death Note, i'd recommend Code Geass.

I wouldn't rate it as highly as Death Note, but it's extremely similar in style and I think you'd enjoy it =3.

/offtopic.

Anime, in my opinion, is one of the biggest forms of plagiarism the world has ever seen.
I agree. There are way too many uninspired clones of the same thing. And for the art form itself, there is simply way too much of it, IMO. It's so easy and cheap to produce.

Sad but true. But, this also doesnt mean ALL anime is a terrible knock off of something else. Dragonball is a funny original series. Dragonball Z got a little [sic] over the top, but the original series was unprecedented. If you look hard, there is some great stuff, you just cant rely on adultswim or gaiaonline to tell you whats good, lmao!

naruto isnt for everyone, but if you want high action thats less unbelievable than DBZ, with a wide cast of interesting characters, than its still a good choice if you give it a chance, and start like 50+ episodes in xD

im sure im not alone when i say i HATE what otaku kids have done to death note. the series is an incredible,in-depth, mature, and suspenseful story; both the manga and anime. but most people disregard it because they think its some kinda gay LxLight orgyfest. but its way over the heads of a lot of the dumb kids that obsess over how "cute" the main character is. L is actually pretty creepy, and is more than likely a meth addict, lmao.

sorry to rant, but i hate to see people dismiss anime based on a ******** fanbase. call it a pet peeve of mine, lmao. you just gotta give things an unbiased chance, and disregard everything but the content itself. if you dont like mystery thrillers, then dont watch death note. if you dont like coming-of-age tales involving super powers, dont watch naruto. but those should really be the only reasons you dont like them.

Um, in the manga, I'm where
Itachi faints at Sasuke's feet
.

Shippuden, where Sasuke gets sent back by that new Kakashi replacement's(Anbu) wood technique. Since Sasuke had him pinned against a rock.

Well, take a look at good and original animes like Fallen Leaves.

Every art form has a ton of crap and a ton of knock offs and people stealing ideas from other people. Hell, there's a scene in the movie Requiem for a Dream that is a copy of a scene from an anime movie. You just have to sift through all the crap to find something good. It's silly for people to knock just anime. It's only prevalent now because anime is the popular thing among the kiddies.

I'm not going to lie. I'm sometimes deterred from animes because of the fans. I almost don't want to watch Death Note because of the fans =S But I still will eventually.

Augh, Zero. Reading that makes me want to go through and catch up on the manga. I stop reading it for awhile, and then I'll see it mentioned somewhere and catch up on months of the manga.

Your eyes happened to drift to my location, I see.
act like one... (people in my school sit like L from deathnote... scares me and makes them look terribly stupid)
i have always been sitting like that even before i read death note
it is very comfortable and i am sitting like that while typing this

EDIT: oh you mean in classrooms with a teacher
then yes i must fully agree with you
in school i always sit properly unless it is gym class- then i will sit like that

anyway i think anime is pointless if you read the manga for the anime
