To those people why do you always and only pick those 3 stages? I mean yeah brawl and melee didn't have much stages to offer (I still rather pick cp's more than those) but pm has like +25 playable stages for crying out loud. I have nothing against those stages but sometime I just want to sd/quit match so a different stage can be picked because they've been picked too death. Is setting it so every legal stage is on the random slot and hit random such a hassle?

Are you talking about in the context of friendlies or tournament matches?

The term "legal stage" is up to interpretation, since each region tends to have different stagelists for PM; the metagame for stages has not yet stabilized such that there's a unified stage list, so it's up to the TO to decide which stages to use and which stages to ban. If you're talking about the stages on the front page, even some of those stages are questionable - Metal Cavern, for example, gives characters very little room to work with, whereas Rumble Falls, in contrast, has so much room for maneuvering such that camping is a relatively powerful option there. As such, there are many personal and regional preferences for which stages are used, but people tend to have the least qualms with Smashville and Battlefield because both provide an appropriate amount of space for defensive and offensive play, remain relatively static in terms of layout changes, have platforms to work with, and have blastzones of moderate size. (From my experience, FD is generally frowned upon because of how the layout makes chaingrabs a very powerful option.)

neutrality. not to say other stages don't have neutral matchups, or that these stages have only neutral matchups (spacies probably don't want to play on FD, for example), these stages just have more neutral matchups to the point that, when people stage strike, those are the stages everyone ends up on.

I've always wished stages would deviate from the standard flat with platforms. It would be sick to see a little bit more imbalanced stages, I'm dead serious.

For tournament matches, players feel much more comfortable on simpler stages or ones they're most used to. In a setting where winning and losing is a big deal, stage choice because much more serious. Naturally, players will pick ones they feel more confident in.

I practice on BF/FD/SV because I want to practice my neutral game, different techniques, and basic movement with little hindrances. Learning ATs and different character on weird terrains like Skyloft and SSE: Jungle is just a hassle.

I honestly can't get enough of SV. If I pick it 19 times, I'll still want to pick it again for the 20th fight, haha.

Especially on Saturday nights. : >

I actually love hazardous stages, too (Pirate Ship is one of my favorites, and that one's ridiculous), but there's something about SV that makes me feel so comfortable. I always feel like I can do my best there, if that makes any sense.

I try to avoid FD as much as I can, purely because the stage design feels really boring to me. More often than not though, stages like BF, SV, and PS2 are my go to choices because of how neutral they feel in most games. I usually play with random stages though, not picking a specific unless I really want to play on it.

I feel your pain. One of my friends absolutely refuses to play on anything but Final Destination, claiming it's "the only good stage".

I'll play on anything but the moving stages. Although, Poke Floats was a guilty pleasure of mine back in the day... I wish they'd bring it back.

I'm comfortable with a lot of stages for competitive play. I like Battlefield, Warioware, and Skyworld a lot. I like those stages specifically because of platform height and how super easy it is for me to consistently waveland for high mobility mixups. When I'm in the zone I can waveland those platforms 100% of the time. I basically have something like "home field advantage" on those stages, so those are my most favorite when I get to pick the stage in tournaments.

Other stages that I'm comfortable with are the new SSE, Hyrule 64, the sonic one, Lylat Cruise without the tilt action, pretty much the entire front page besides Halberd, Dracula's Castle and Norfair.

I love playing on different stages. I usually can't stand playing the same stage twice in a row. Whether they're static like Battlefield or move around a lot like Rainbow Cruise, I consider them each a lot of fun in their own way.

I love being a filthy casual.

Can P:M add more stages easily? I'd enjoy having some of those altered stages of Fourside and stuff in some pack I saw (that I usually see in Calabrel videos)

I'd try to enjoy SV/BF(/PS2) more though hime, they're just good stages. FD on the other hand though, I CANNOT TAKE THAT DUMB PLATFORMLESS STAGE.

Haha, everyone's got one in their circle of friends. For me, it's my younger cousin. He always, always, always picks FD when it's his choice, and if it's not he'll try to shove his cursor over there and snipe it like a greedy turd. Luckily, I've gotten pretty good at intercepting him and picking something nonsensical as punishment. >: D

In casuals, I always set stage choice to "turns" in the game options. The best option for a party setting, IMO.
