Who you want to play Vs. Who you're good with...

This dilemma, this dilemma... it haunts me every time a new Smash game comes out. I'm sure many others as well.

The ultimate quandary of:

Who you want to play (Palutena)
Vs.
Who you're actually good with (Robin/Pokemon Trainer)

And the extra layer of...

Who's actually a good character (???)

Some people have all three of these line up when Smash comes out and that's great. Though I feel like a lot of us don't end up as the character we really want to be.

How do you deal with it? Do you just move on, or do you say "damn the rest" and be that character no matter what, even in the face of 1000 defeats? What are your characters in this situation?

I'm probably still going to try and get better with Palutena. She's much more viable this time around, or so I've read. The struggle continues.

Yeah, right now it seems I can only play DK well, but would rather play nearly anyone else on the roster, but I am too bad haha. This just means I need to apply myself and work past my weaknesses.

I want to play Meta Knight, and he tends to be one of my best. I was excited for him after seeing demo footage. But now that the game came out, he feels slightly awkward compared to Smash 4 Meta Knight.
After playing some different characters, I think my 3 current best are Olimar (Another fighter I want to be good with), Cloud, and Dr. Mario.

As far as I know, Meta Knight, Olimar, Cloud, and Dr. Mario are all pretty good characters from people's first impressions. I'll keep using Meta Knight and get used to his new neutral B and his more edge guard focused play style.

I've wanted so desperately to play :ultdaisy: since before Brawl.

Now she's here.

And I'm terrible with her. I'm trying to get used to the idea of ground floating with a turnip in hand but the muscle memory isn't there and it's aggravating as hell to relearn a game I can basically pick up and play with most other characters.

Instead, so far I've found my best to be... :ultcorrin:

I ****ing hate FE:Fates.

I'm always enticed by characters with tons of cool setups and item play. In Smash 4, it was :4pacman:, but I'm no Sinji thats for sure. I really want to get good with :ultsnake: and all his gadgets for the same reason, but I always end up getting destroyed while I'm trying to set up crazy C4 or grenade setups. I often just end up going :ultmario: or :ultmarth: and getting much better results. However, I think a lot of that is because I am pretty used to those two and for the most part they play like Smash 4. Either way, it makes it hard for me to play Snake (although his non-gadget moves are pretty good also) when I could just pick one of the others and play well.
