Who thinks you can actually play SSBB well with the WiiMote and Nunchuk? (Pic inside)

I'm not really a big fan of this setup except for the throwing items feature. (Press and hold drop then flick your WiiMote in the direction where you want to throw your item)

What do you think?

personally i think the control scheme in that picture is horrid... and id probly be no good with it

controls should be

Z should be shield
C should be grab
joystick moves
A attacks
B specials
d-pad is jump
1 is drop item
2 is taunt
- can be pause
+, final smash

much better, no?

ummm...helloo. You get to CHOOSE your control scheme. So, do whatever the heck you want with it. Or use the GC controller. Who cares???

Psyt's setup is almost identical to how I'd imagine it... the control scheme in that picture is completely random and uncomfortable.

It's not real homie. Just a fan interpretation. I'd imagine the real controls are a little more fluid, based on the explination of Smash attacks.

Where that boomerang came from
I know for a fact that I can't move the control stick as accurately and as quickly when I'm moving it with the same hand that's holding the controller. For instance, dash dancing with the nunchuck would be a lot harder than with the GCN or Classic controllers.

Am I immediately confident and convinced you can do well with wiimote + nunchuk? No. It is so alien and different from what I am used to, that I am not immediately sure it will work.

Am I willing to try it in the hopes I'll be very pleasantly surprised? Absolutely. I used to know a guy who would use a SpaceOrb gamepad to play Quake online, and he did quite well with it. I'm willing to give the Wiimote + Nunchuk configuration a try; who knows, maybe it will click well with me and improve my play.

people who use the Wii a lot will use it im sure, like if they play zelda a lot..

im sticking with the GC controller, it just has that smash feel from melee unlike the wiimote and nunchuk.

It's the only configuration besides GCN that I actually gave some thought. The Classic never rubbed me the right way, sideways Wiimote is a joke, but the first time I looked over the Smash Attack update the Nunchuk didn't seem that bad. Not as solid and muscle-memory friendly as real controllers, but holding it in my hand it seems somewhat functional. It'd take a different kind of player, I imagine playing Fox with it would be like riding a bull, but with a slower more precision based character I can see it being a bit more comfortable. The fast-fingers type would stick to solid controllers.

But do consider that some of these new players may have never played Melee. They'd start playing with the Nunchuk if they wanted some real control, and they'd stick with it long enough to become natural with it. With some veterans bound to switch for personal reasons, I can see a good fraction using the Wii-chuck/GCN compared to the others. I made off with a ten dollar MINT Wavebird (...And some illegally purchased little turtles...) at a fleamarket the other day. That gives me two Birds, one gray one silver, the wired GCN controller that came with my system, two Wiimotes and one nunchuck. Unless they bring their own controller, the last person to show up is getting Nunchuk unless I find another steal-price on a 'Bird. I'm interested in seeing how people keep up with the different controller.

That's fake, you wouldnt pause with the home button, because thats for getting to the wii menu without shutting the wii off.

edit: also, you wouldnt have 2 final smashes

Okay what I meant is, who thinks even with customized controls, you'll do good?

I'm going to stick with GC controller too but still... I'm curious to see someone play well with this..

Am I like the only one whose going to fully try to utilize the just plain ol' WiiMote w/o the nunchuck? I have a feeling it will be the most fun to use =D

I'm pretty sure this isn't even a REAL control scheme.

Some guy posted this one or two weeks ago, it being his design, and asked for comments and whatnot, and if you wanted to take it and call it yours, you could.

I want to stick with my black GC controller..

But the wire is pretty short compared to the PS2 and Xbox wires so I can't cruise back on my couch. And the way the Wii is built and the way it is facing is hard for me to utilize the wire...

My Setup

I also don't like the.. sound of L and R when you press them in.

Maybe I should buy I wireless? I could also go with the classic which plugs into the Wiimote if I'm not mistaken but the position of X,Y,B,A and the D-pad switched with the left analong stick might be weird.

But if the Wiimote/nunchuk feels right for me. I might end up using it, but I also doubt it due to the absence of a lot of buttons.

I don't know.. We'll have to wait and see. But I do predict there are going to be a variety of players using each of the setups..

That setup is horrendus I'd also like to add...

No motion sensing no motion sensing no motion sensing no motion sensing no motion sensing no motion sensing no motion sensing.

Though I can see it work after playing games like Strikers and Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2.

I love how movement, attacks and special attacks are ALL on the nunchuck.

Hmm, I'm not too sure that if its customizable it'll be all too bad.

Maybe I'll try it a few times and face the inevitable by switching to my GC controllers haha.

I'm gonna use 3 Wavebirds and 1 Classic Controller because I want all Wireless (and you need to be able to start the game, and use can use a Classic controller on the Wii menu without a sensor bar).

Although i dont really like this configuration you have here, the idea of throwing items with a flick of the wiimote is really awesome. It would be so much more satisfying stealing someones kill with an item thrown with the wiimote than by pressing "A".
