SS64 had 12 character, 8 starters and 4 hidden.
Melee had 25 characters, 14 starting and 11 unlockables, of which 6 were clones and 5 were "original". The 8 original were in the starters, plus 2 hidden ones from the first and 4 new. and of the hidden ones, 2 were hidden ss64, so there were really just 3 original. the others, as said, were clones
Now for brawl, we already saw the original 8 and, with todays update (ice climbers), the 4 new starters from melee are there already as well. weve already been presented with 5 new characters, not counting zero suit, cause shes like sheik/zelda for melee, was shown separately, but only takes 1 roster space.
Who's left to be shown from previous games? All the hidden ones!!!
A lot of people says that the ice climbers pretty much confirms g&w, and thats not true, it has nothing to do, cause g&w was hidden and i-c starters. dont get me wrong, i DO want g&w, he is my fav char!! But well, back to the analysis, a lot of people says that marth will bite the dust, and ike will take his place, which seems likely. now, not much people want mewtwo to return, so lets say ike takes marth place, lucario could take mewtwos place, and g&w would be the only new hidden char from melee left, so he would be left, cut off or replaced, but there is no way to tell so far
SS64 hidden chars will most likely return as well, and in my opinion they are the next ones to be updated, maybe not luigi and jiggs, since its kind of a tradition to unlock them XD but i think falcon and ness will be starters
So, if u ask me, the only ones left to return from melee, are the original hidden chars, and not even all of them got high enough chances, i think luigi, jiggs, falcon and g&w are there for sure, cause u cant replace them, but ness can be replaced by lucas, and the other 2 by the chars mentioned before. But i think ALL the ORIGINAL chars deserve to return, cause theyre not just fighers u know, they are smash brothers!! XD

The clones, no, for my point of view the have no chances, just ganondorf, cause he is the only one who truly deserves a place of his own, just give him a new move set and thats it
I didnt make that much analysis, but it seems very likely, dont u agree?? i mean, we already know that every new char from both games is in, and we already have 5 all new chars, so maybe we will still be shown with 3 already known hidden chars from previous games, and 1 or 2 more all new chars, and thats it, so that luigi, jiggs and g&w will still be unlockable in this game, and all the other hidden chars will be brand new
