Who has a tradition of always picking Mario first?

ya dr. mario probably get in just cause he hasnt been in a game in awhile but i dont understand why pit is in? hes cool and all just he hasnt been in a game since the 80s or am i mistaken?

Yes I also have the tradition to always pick Mario first. I do this because he is the "all around" character. I stay as him untill I have unlocked all of the characters and have learned all of the basic new game mechanics so Mario will be my main at first.

I can't remember who I picked first in Melee, but it was either Mario, Link, Fox, or Pikachu, my favorite characters from the original. But for Brawl I'll definitely play as Mario first in the Training mode than dive straight into Classic....

Unless, of course, a friend and I decide to first settle the "Nintendo vs Sega" debate once and for all, first, I'll play as Sonic in that match since I grew up a Sega fanboy. Regardless, it will be Mario who will perform the traditional "first trek" through Classic mode. Then, I shall proceed to beat the snot out of Jigglypuff...

Yeah, as soon as I play Brawl I'll go for a nostalgic feel and play as either Mario or Link first (can't decide) and have a battle with the one I didn't choose. It just feels right compared to starting straight off with the SSE or with a new character.

I will probably do it because Marth is my main and since he isn't in the game as far as we know then I would naturally choose my secondary(Mario) first and see what they have done to him.

I have also had a habit of choosing Mario first in the Super Smash Bros series, though not on the arcade mode. In both of the previous games, I first selected Mario on training mode in order to memorize his moves. Afterwards, I would continue to move down the list of characters from left to right.
As for why, it was probably because he was the first character on the list starting from left to right. But, on the other hand, even if he wasn't first on the list, it's Mario. Personally, I find it impossible not to choose him first.

Here's a thought: It's likely that most people will pick Mario first almost 'by default' for one big reason: The presumed starting match of Subspace Emissary is Mario vs. Kirby (choose one), isn't it? If that ends up being the case, my Mario game is better than my Kirby since I understand Mario's design better. Mario 'by default' here.

Lately when playing Classic in Melee, I go in roster order from left to right - so Mario is always first (And Doc Mario is first for Adventure). For Brawl, though, I'm probably going to do the same, after playing SSE. ANND... I'm going to play with Mario in SSE's first level (The Vs Kirby fight).
