I am a 14 year old aspiring smash player who just recently got the hang of advanced play. I am also from Northern New Jersey, close by New York and I was wondering where I could begin in terms of tournaments, the community, etc. I only play with one friend of mine of equal skill and I haven't taken it further from there, besides going to Apex 2012 and being wrecked by Kage in pools. If someone could help me get a start on where i should be looking for tournaments or communicating to other, please reply.

You should check out the regional zones. Get in touch with the smash group in your region and they'll help you out. Its cool to see younger players getting into this. Good luck

I actually got to hangout with armada and axe, very cool people, and as for all the other players is was just a hello how are you kinda thing. Problem is Axe is in Arizona and Armada is in Sweeden XD I have to check out No Johns, and is there a way to start a tournament? I have this place called local battles close to me, and i could hold it there.

To start a tournament, just do it! Organize the event with your local venue and advertise it here on the Boards. Since you're just getting started in the community, it would be wise to find the help of an experienced member to host the tournament.

I agree, build a name for yourself before hosting one. No one will really want to go if they dont even know who the person whos hosting it.

Besides, like others have said, just attend No Johns and places like that, you have a great region with a lot of strong players.

Also, I hope getting wrecked by Kage didnt discourage you, he's a world class player, and its going to take awile to reach his level

Losing to Kage didnt discourage me at all , he's one of my favorite players, and i was glad to take a stock from him. It actually helped me because you never really know how good you are until you lose to someone better, and thats what happened. I just have to keep playing different people
