I am filling out my applications now. Where should I go?

So far my list is (in the order i'm thinking of going to them)
1. Washington University in St. Louis- Awesome school, probably the best for me overall but is expensive, in the middle of nowhere (end of smash career :() and I might not get in.

2. Rutgers- Pretty good school, cheap, good location (yay smash... also only an hour from home). I'll most likely get in to Honors and hopefully get some money back.

3. Boston University- Good school. In boston which is a pretty awesome city. Expensive but I might get money. Not too far from home (4 hours) but not much of a smash community, I think... IDK.

4. Maryland University- Very good school, will probably get into honors and get some money. Not so expensive. Good smash community, not too far from home.

Okay now tell me about these schools or other schools where I should be going. I'm not too interested in partying or drinking so that's not much of a factor. Also, who goes where?

(This is the social section so this fits here... right?)

Well what's your major man? What's your financial situation? Are you fine with long distances? WTB more dataz!

When I was looking for school (Graduated from Drexel in June) it came down to what schools I wanted to go to and then how much those schools gave me.

Drexel gave me a boatload of money and so I went there.

psst go to temple

First of all, this is your education, F*** the smash community seriously this is way more important.

Secondly, if you know what you WANT to do or at least a generally what you want to study, ask around as to which campus is going to have the best equipment/teaching staff for that specific major. I went to a community college for two years and when I was done (studying film/tv/media) I asked him the best place for this major in MD and he said Towson... without hesitation I chose it (I wanted to stay in state, cheaper)

Rutgers sounds like a good bet for you, being an hour from home gives you freedom but you can still go back when you need to (I'm an hour from my home in Frederick, MD)

But really, if your staying on the east coast especially mid-a... there are a crapload of players everywhere so don't base your decision over something so meaningless... this is your future.

hope that helps.

Thanks to both of you :)

As I said, Wash U is my first choice and as far as I know there is no smash there. It's not a main factor but it is something on my mind.

I really don't know what I want to study but probably will end up being Business of some sort I don't know. I'm also interested in math, history and writing stories.

My parents are paying for college and I'm not sure but my sister goes to a 50,000 a year college and while I'm getting the feeling they don't want to pay that much for me also, they would. We only overlap for one year and the school I go to now is like 20 a year anyway.

Also my ACT was 32 and SATs were 1410 so I could probably get in to most schools besides Ivy's and I'll probably get money from state schools, IDK I have to see.

Rutgers is probably the best choice but I'm not really sure if I want to go to a big school.

yea i dont know what schools are good pertaining to your major, i just know that drexel is awesome for engineering, comp sci, all those thigns. they even have a game design program which is what im here for (the comp sci track of it).

though smash shouldnt be your main priority, since its something you enjoy you shouldn't rule it out per se, but dont make it be a breaking decision.

i personally wanted a school great for my major and close to home, and drexel fit perfectly. i didnt start competitive smash till my freshman year anyway, but yea. fun fact: drexel is the #1 university for smash. hands down.

my sister is BU alumni and she says that while she loved the city life and whatnot, a lot of the BU attendees are kind of snobby rich kids.
also apparently a lot of "Jewish American Princesses" to quote her directly.

apparently while the BU cats know how to party, when the MIT or Harvard bros try to throw one they bring things like wine and um, other non party things.
lolololol.

if you can afford it, go to the best school possible, especially if you know what you want to do

if you can't afford it, it's a non-question because you just plain can't afford it

if you are 100% certain you want to go to some sort of graduate school afterwards or have no idea what you want to do yet, however, you can relax your standards on your undergrad school

really though, what you actually learn at the better schools is just as important as the prestige of holding their degrees

edit: and the smash scene should be a NON-FACTOR (or at least not a factor on its own; if the smash scene is lacking because the overall life scene is lacking, like if you go to south dakota or something, it can matter)

Best advice I ever got was go to the place you most want to go to (that you can afford). **** happens, and you never know what you could consider rock solid now could end up proving shaky in the future. If something you were planning on doing doesn't work out (major, sports, whatever), it's nice to always have the fact that you like where you are at.

My example: I'm at Pitt. I also applied to Moravian and Penn St. main, both of which I got into. Penn St. I ruled out because of money problems, and then it was down to Moravian and Pitt. When I went to the Moravian tennis coach, he told me to go where I wanted to go, and not where I could play tennis. When I looked at it from that perspective, I realized that without tennis (and a few other reasons I was looking at Moravian for that were outside of school), I really didn't want to go there.

Now I'm at Pitt. I've decided I no longer want to be a chem major. I'm not playing tennis. I can't hang out with a bunch of my old friends. But you know what? I still love it here, which means I still like where I'm at, even if things didn't go the way I drew them up in my head.
