E3 is in 6 days, and the only veteran that has been announced recently is Ike. I still think these characters are going to be announced, but when? At E3? Or hidden? I'm not sure. But if they don't get in, I might have a problem :p

VETERANS
- Ness
- Captain Falcon
- Falco
- Wario
- Ice Climbers
- Ganon
- Meta Knight
- Mr. Game & Watch

I personally think everyone on that list of yours has a strong chance of making it back. I bet we'll see a few of them at E3.

Yea, I made that list pretty realistic, when some say that for example Wolf or Jigglypuff will come back, I just don't believe it. Jigglypuff would have been announced near the beginning.

To go along with that, I'd like to show you the PoTD text when Lucario was announced. "Lucario joined the battle for the first time in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which was released six years ago. The production staff of Brawl worked really hard to expand the character roster--without their efforts, Lucario probably never would have joined the battle." Sakurai said that the team who made Brawl worked hard to expand the roster. So, for all we know, any character that was in Brawl could've just made it into the game just because the Brawl team needed a big roster.

I don't know about Jigglypuff being announced at the beginning, she never was and I believe her, Wolf, and Toon Link (confirmed) were the last additions to Brawl, right? She's also always been a secret character, I do kinda expect that once again. I don't see why she wouldn't make it.

Many of them are going to be hidden until release, guys like Jigglypuff, Mr. Game & Watch, Ganondorf and Falco are always unlockables and haven't been seen pre-release in any of their games, and same will likely hold true for some Brawl veterans like Wolf and R.O.B. Captain Falcon and Ness also have a history of being unlockables, though I doubt the latter will be unlockable if Lucas becomes that, and I could even see Meta Knight making the leap to it since its very much in his nature.

I do expect Wario and ICs to be on the starting roster though, along with at least one of the Mother characters. The rest have perfectly fine explanations as to why we haven't seen them yet.

Let's be honest, Lucas was a complete clone. Mother 3 was a Japanese exclusive, and some people when they saw Lucas in SSBB they went, "Who the **** is he?" Plus, Earthbound is on the eShop which means it's more known. I think Lucas will not come back in SSB4. If Lucas did come back, Ness would be in also. Also, we can all hope & pray for a diverse moveset.

A complete clone? No, thats like N64 Luigi or Young Link. Lucas is a semi-clone, and I hope he returns. Popularity doesn't matter when it comes to character selection, as Sakurai has demonstrated before.

I think Lucas, Wolf and Jigglypuff all have a high chance to come back, Sakurai clearly doesn't want to make cuts, and these 3 characters are personal favorites of his. Lucas was planned to replace Ness back in Melee but his game went through many problems, Wolf was also planned but scrapped for Falco because they thought that Wolf would look just like a recolor of Fox since back then Star Fox 64 Wolf looked just like Fox, but grey and with an eyepatch. Jigglypuff has been in since the original wich means she is a fan favorite, maybe even for the developers.

Frankly when it comes to veterans, I... don't know. They'll either be leaked out by someone else or they'll be officially announced. Veterans always seem to be a touchy subject in comparison to newcomers, so I guess it really depends

I've been banking on another direct if Smash 3DS releases in august.

I'd hope for Ness and Lucas, I'm an EB fan (If you couldn't already tell). However, I think Ness has better chances through seniority, Earthbound's localization, and eShop inclusion.

You never know, though. Keep in mind Ness was almost dropped for Lucas in Melee. I don't know why they would decide to do that now, after they cancelled that decision two installments ago, but hey Suckurai put Wii Fit Trainer in the game so reasoning is kind of down the pooper at this point.

Imagine the hype of Meta Knight not being in the game :p
The game would be dead to me then, it'd be like cutting Fox and Falco in Brawl just because they were the strongest characters in Melee.

- Ness - Making him into a manly, muscular guy takes some time, but we assure you it will make him stronger and better for balance.
- Captain Falcon - Due to his overpowered nature, he is being remodeled into walking on all fours with weaker attacks.
- Falco - He is now a complete Fox clone, no differences in speed, jump height, blaster, nothing. Balance purposes, we assure you.
- Wario - All of his attacks are now nuclear farts. This change makes him much stronger.
- Ice Climbers - THE FUN HAS BEEN DOUBLED
- Ganon - He has been made slower but stronger, and to prevent him from becoming OP, we've nerfed his recovery.
- Meta Knight - Because so many people thought he was so strong, we found it only natural to remove his sword and reduce him to slapping. Now he is not as annoying.
- Mr. Game & Watch
- He is now 3D. This is a big change as well, but it is worth the wait.

Falco shouldn't have been in the list if you're not going to add Wolf there. Wolf is more important to Star Fox series and he's less of a clone than Falco.

Falco is a 2 time veteran. If only one returns it'll more likely be Falco as he's a fan favourite.

By & during E3 2007, the E3 before Brawl was to be released, we only knew 9 veterans over the course of a year+ and NONE of those characters were hidden.

There were still 17 veterans missing with the game only 5 months away (until it got delayed in October). 4 of them did not return (and 1 technically didn't, but sort of did under a new name/design).

Compared to Brawl, we're way ahead. 24 veterans already.

E3 will undoubtedly reveal some more, and unless Sakurai's taking a page from Mario Kart 8, some of them we may never know are returning until the game comes out.

Let's be honest, Lucas was a complete clone.
I don't even think I can take you seriously. Either you've never played Lucas somehow, or you have never used A button moves and think that a few Special moves and a Final Smash is all it takes for a character to be a "complete clone". The closest to being that is Toon Link, and he still has subtle differences.

Lucas isn't even sort of a clone aside from 4 moves, and even those aren't exactly the same. I don't think ANY of Lucas's standard moves are the same as Ness except for his Forward Smash (though a different object used).

Having said that, I don't expect Lucas to return. But I also didn't expect Lucario, Toon Link or Ike to return, and expected Olimar to be replaced as well. I just can't get over someone pretending Lucas was a "complete clone" if they actually played Brawl.

Jigglypuff would have been announced near the beginning.
Jigglypuff has never been revealed near the beginning of any of the games. What makes you think Jigglypuff would've been announced 'near the beginning'? Of the currently revealed characters, excluding Sonic, only 4 characters have been revealed that were previously hidden. They could easily be added to the starting roster like Ness & C.Falcon were in Melee.

I'm glad they made the cuts they did in Brawl. Doctor Mario, Young Link and Pichu (and KINDA Roy) were really just waste of space. Doc was 99% Mario, with some power and speed changes. Young Link the same, though he had Fire Arrows. Pichu too, except for wall jumping and self-damaging. Instead of making them, they could instead make 3 other completely unique characters, like Wario instead of Doc, Charizard instead of Pichu, Skull Kid instead of Young Link. Luckily, the clones we got in Brawl wasn't that much of clones anymore, and the cut the big clones from Melee (Mewtwo though... he should still be there D':).

Anyway, Sakurai said "no more clones" for the Smash 4, but yet we got Toon Link. I know he can play very differently from Link, but come on! His special moves are all the same, just a little different! Why not give him, let's say, Bomb-Chus, Deku Leaf, Skull Hammer, etc?

So, if Toon Link returns, I think there is a chance of Lucas returning as well, but I believe the chance is small. As people here have mentioned, the game Lucas was in was a Japan exclusive, but Toon Link have got a recent game (Wind Waker HD).

As for other vets, Jiggly will return. She is one of the original 12, so even though I don't like her personally, it would be sad to have one of the original smashers gone. Since Jiggly now is a fairy-type Pokemon, they could give her another moveset; get rid of her Slam side-special and give her something like Gazzling Beam (I THINK it's called that. A new fairy-type move). And buff her Up Special. It was nearly useless before. Doing that will make Jiggly 10x more interesting in my eyes.

Ness comes back. As I said, the original 12 will return. Same with our Captain Falcon.

Wario. He's back, no doubt. If Rosalina gets in from the Mario series, Wario will too. Besides, Waluigi and Ashley had a W mark instead of a mushroom mark. And please, PLEASE make his animations the way Wario really is. In Brawl, he has Mr Game and Watch styled movements. I know it is from Wario Ware, but that isn't how Wario is!! :( Give him movements like he has in Wario Land, Wario World, and the Mario Party/sports games!

Ice Climbers. This is where I get doubtful. Sakurai said he had problems developing them on the 3DS, so who knows? Maybe Rosalina has taken their place?

Mr Game and Watch, I see him returning as well, being a fan-favorite (even though I don't care much about him, lol)

Falco, I think he will return, getting a new moveset, making him more different from Fox. As for Wolf, I do think he will be cut.

I can see Ness, Falcon, and Puff staying hidden until release and Falco, Meta Knight, Dorf and G&W/ROB being announced at E3.
