When to counterpick?

Sooo... im going to my first brawl tourney on the 24th. I feel pretty prepared with both my mains (Lucas and MK), but i started to think about something...

At the tourney, i can see myself usually opening up the match playing with MK and counterpicking with Lucas whenever needed if i lose the first game, but when is "whenever needed"?

In what character match-ups, do you believe, would be smart to counterpick with Lucas?

Definately use lucas against Ike. I'll think about the others and get back to you, MK's pretty solid.

Lucas works well on DK too for the same reasons as Ike

zelda definitely. MK should have a harder time v Zelda than Lucas v Zelda. If you space properly, there should be no way for zelda to hit you. SHdodge-jabs works well v zelda b/c they're not used to the low lag. downb beats din's(36% sometimes! woot)

Also, I went ahead and started a list in the OP so i can remember what characters to counterpick against.

Anymore advice would be awesome.

I actually wasnt sure about this one. Both matchups seem to have about the same number of pros and cons.

On another note, i was thinking Lucario would be a character to counterpick with Lucas; I could be wrong though (Ill add it to the list once i get some more opinions).

Definately Metaknight. WOlf can be so campy and defensive with that **** blaster. I cannot penetrate it and PK Fire is totally outranged by it.

Personally, I think Lucas matches well against Zelda. You can absorb the fire ball very very easily and make Zelda pay for her delayed moves. I'd only counter pick maybe against Marth since he can do an inescapable chain grab (correct me if I'm wrong). Chain grabs ruin ssbb.
