When should I buy a Wii U? When the game comes out or before?

I'm betting on NoA officially announcing the release date of Smash Bros for Wii U along with a bundle involving the system soon. Maybe with the adapter + controller too?

Consider buying a system if it has at least 10 games you want.
I don't think there has ever been a home console like that for me. I've always gotten Nintendo consoles precisely because they have games that are good enough for me to get my money's worth without buying a ton of games. Really only the DS/3DS have gotten around that number of games I've wanted.

The PS2, PS3, GameCube, Wii, 3DS, DS - I never owned one, but the 3DS is backwards compatible -, and the Wii U all had at least 10 games I wanted over the course of time. You just have to dig around a lot and be open to different genres. I'm missing some games since I sold them as a kid and now I regret not having Grandia 2, Dark Cloud, Looney Tunes: Back in Action - personally, the best movie-tie/based game ever played -, The Legend of Dragoon, Legaia 2: Duel Saga, I-Ninja, Champions of Norrath & Champions: Return to Arms, and more - I would include Super Mario Sunshine, but I don't like it. Heck, some games I never even owned, but played like Star Fox: Assault, Phantasy Star Universe, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, Goblin Commander: Unleash the Horde, and The Bard's Tale. Others I never owned or even known about until way later like Wild Arms 3 - I still remember the trailer and wanted the game so badly as a kid -, Xenosaga, Tenchu, Chrono Trigger, Persona, etc.

If I

When do we expect the smash bundle to be announced? How long before a game launch are the bundles usually announced?
I'd say a month or two before, but there have been bundles announced after the game's release like Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Super Mario 3D World, etc.

Thanks a lot, now I have to go boot up Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles again because nostalgia. I've never beaten the game but it's definitely one of my all-time favorite games.

On topic, I stand by my statement that if you don't already own a Wii U, you need to go get one.

I bought my Wii U for Mario Kart 8, DKC:TF, and ZombiU. Wind Waker HD and NSMBU+NSLU were nice bonuses. I've enjoyed it a lot, and I haven't even played SM3DW and some of the other big titles.

I also got my Wii U bundle (new) off eBay for $50 less than retail, including shipping, and no sales tax.

i got this bundle
or just wait for inevitable smash wii u bundle, maybe come with the adapter or controller.
I think I might hold out for Black Friday.

I didn't think the sales could possibly be that good, but someone here said " I remember the Flame Red 3DS with Super Mario 3D Land going for $129.99 or something like that" which is a pretty significant discount. That's like a $240 value for half that price.

If I can save anywhere close to 50% on a Wii U + game in 2 months, I think I should maybe wait

I'm guessing you don't have a 3DS. Except for the lack of Smash Run, we don't know much about the Wii U version.

Is "sometime" code for today? Because it should be.

Although if you really are this on the fence about it, I'd wait. Sounds like you'll get it eventually anyway, at this point you might as well hold out to see if any bundle-shenans are in the cards.

If I can save up to 50% on black friday, which is around smash wii's release, why not?

Getting a Black Friday deal like that might be a bit stressful.

On the plus side, it should be less stressful than getting a PS4 on Black Friday. Not sure about Xbox One... it was selling faster than Wii U, but if there's anytime the Wii U is going to beat the Xbox One, it's this Christmas with Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros and discount bundles galore.

Usually the black friday console bundles are nothing to write home about - but if you can stand waiting, hey, who am I to stop you?

If not black friday, there's got to be something. It's been exactly 1 year since Nintendo dropped the price of the Wii U console to the price it has now. They've either gotta drop the price again or throw in a game or do something, because they can't keep selling the same deal for 1 year at the same price.

They absolutely can and will, given that they have titles to push on the public now. They may switch up the bundle, though. I could see that happening.

WELL COME ON OVER BIG BOY.

Hey, if you can wait, go for it man. I'm not going to stop you. Hell, they may have a smash bundle? That's a reasonable thing to hold out for.

DO THIS.

IMO, this is easily the best way to go. Even the best Black Friday deals aren't going to cut the price down this much. Don't be fooled - these have been almost universally reported as being completely like new. If you have any reservations about refurbished models, leave them at the door. They include everything a normal deluxe set would, and they come straight from Nintendo with a full year warranty, so no need to worry about being shipped something defective or incomplete secondhand. Occasionally they go out of stock, but so far they've been restocked quickly.

EDIT: I forgot the part where you said you had Amazon store credit. Even so, I can't imagine you'd find a better deal through them. Just use that Amazon credit for the $99 Smash bundle and you're still at sub $300 altogether.

Buy it immediately, and buy it from a store new. Nintendo is still kinda in trouble. Cut em a break. There's a lot of cool games for the Wii U that aren't as awesome as Smash, but are phenomenal. Pikmin 3, 3D World, Mario Wii U, Mario Kart 8... all great games. Hyrule Warriors looks to hit it out of the park too. It is an undervalued console. And the great thing about Nintendo games, as I realized by selling them, is that they never really lose value. I sold Xenoblade today for the price I bought it for, and that's WITH the remake coming out soon.

There's my speech. Go out and get Wii U. That you haven't yet has put you in the enviable position that you have a TON of games in backlog that you must play, and will keep you busy until Smash.
