People who just stand there and don't taunt after KOing me makes me furious.
Was I not worth your while?!
I've never been in the habit of taunting in all the years I've played smash... so it's a habit for me to not taunt just like it is a habit for many people to taunt.

I don't really get mad over taunts, it rather fuels me with energy to take them out.
Yeah I am the same way if I just destroy them after they taunt at the start its kind of like saying "yeah that's what happens when you are left open" then the OK ness taunt

Some players take advantage of that mindset. They taunt to make you angry and thus play unsafely, which they will punish. It's super-easy to abuse on new players if you've got a solid defensive game.

That being said, I'm a Bowser player. My twerk is one of the best taunts next to D3's crouch. :p

If my opponent taunts I'll normally taunt right after out of appreciation, but I'll also taunt if I SD or get absolutely destroyed on the first stock. Other times I taunt just because I like the animation, for example Lucas' taunt where he argues with the Rope Snake for a second which I'm gonna be doing from the instant Lucas becomes available. IMO getting mad over a harmless animation when you don't even know for sure what the intention of its use even was is more immature than using said harmless animation in a supposedly serious match.

Taunting is no big deal. I do it when I KO my opponent; hence its name.

If your opponent's taunting annoys you, hit them mid-taunt; if you can't because you're soaring over the horizon, that's probably why they're taunting.

Taunting is never something I do automatically. I see it as something that can be taken too many ways to be used lightly. It's like texting: you can never really be sure of someone's tone. Luckily, I play Dedede, a characters whose taunts all have very specific moods. I have a couple situations where taunting sends a clear message. At the beginning of a match, I will use my up taunt as a respectful gesture against good opponents. When I get a particularly maniacal kill like a gordo stage spike or an unexpected KO with the jet hammer, I use the side taunt. When something weird happens like a reflected and hit gordo getting an insta-kill, I use the down taunt. Finally, if the opponent does something stupid and dies, I use Dedede's crouch to put a dash of salt on the wound.

I got a kill on a Captain Falcon using Mario, and taunted because one should. I used his up taunt, whose duration is measured in units familiar to geologists. Outraged by this display of wanton and godless levity, he very quickly respawned and Falcon punched me off the stage, last stock. Uh good game, I guess?

I don't taunt at all after a kill...unless the person I'm playing against decides to whip out the :shaker: before the next match.
Only times I taunt is when I play as Little Mac by performing his side taunt when a match starts.

Lesson: If you taunt at the wrong times to be a sadistic asshole, karma will get you back.

Last game in for glory, a jigs and I were on our second lives. He was at around 130 (fox KO difficulty) and I was at 20, so he started to panic. I messed up and one of his side b broke my shield. It was quite unusual. He was a jerk so he taunted immediately. Jiggly-puffffffffffff!

When it was over, I was only about two second into the stun animation. I was still very much dizzy as he ran in to rest. I didn't think it would kill, so I pressed my buttons slowly, believing the rest was unavoidable. As the rest was about to come out, I saw fox, immediately entering a headstool, breaking free of the stun.

I don't know exactly how it happened. I didn't look close to breaking free. But I didn't complain. He was just shocked, and an easy victim to my u-smash. Don't taunt kids.

Essentially this thread shows that nobody knows "your meaning" of a taunt. I just don't do them. If you hit taunt after a kill or SD, then I just finish the match and find a new opponent, whether I win or lose. There's enough idiots "tea bagging" and **** talking into a mic everywhere else on the internet.

Then you can go "OMG well I taunt because it baits you and then you mess up and I win!" My nickname on the game is also "NoTryHards." That still applies. If you want to play just to WIN and do every cheap, BS move it takes just to see your name on that win screen, then leave, because I'm not interested.

Taunts never really annoy me whenever I am playing. They are just simple little moves, nothing to get pissed off over at all. Taunts are more of a way to say "Look what I just did!", and I even use them as motivations to fight harder in a match.

Getting angry because someone taunted you after getting a kill is a big overreaction to a minor part of a match.

Taunting is harmless; :4dedede:'s fuggin' crouch sets me off more than an actual taunt does, for some reason.

Taunting sucks. At the same time, it is way more satisfying to beat someone who taunts.

I find it funny, I only taunt at the end of the match and sometimes do cool attacks at the end of the match because they look cool in slo-mo, like Link's spin attack.

I specially love when stupid Captain Falcon taunts and loses.

I also love the double KO/SD taunt after returning.

Most taunts I'm more than fine with because they're usually funny or good spirited. The only taunts I can't stand is Fox's because my god that voice is annoying

Weird. I look at taunting the exact oposite way. When I meet an oponent that starts the battle with a taunt, I know that this is a player I'm going to like. Basically, when I meet a player like this, taunts works like this for us:

At the start of a match: Good luck! (Or if we're a ditty, for example Ganon ditty, we taunt because it's cool)
He taunts after gets a KO on me: Oooh, take that!
He taunts after I KO him: Nice one!

I like taunts.

No, not really.

I had a Villager enemy once who hit me with one of his trees that he sent off the ledge when I was recovering low. When I spawned, he began the dancing taunt that takes forever to finish. I was Fox at the time, so I had time to run up to him, say "Here I come!" and do a U-Smash that killed him. When the match was over, I had to take a break because I was laughing so hard.

I was going to come up with some facetious response about killing people while they're taunting (don't do it; it spoils the game for both of you), but instead:

It's clear from this thread that people taunt for any number of reasons. Whatever meaning you ascribe to an opponent's taunt is completely your own invention. If you're interpreting every taunt as a mean-spirited personal jab, you're probably just wound up. If it upsets you every single time you play, maybe consider why that might be.

If, on the other hand, you just kill people who taunt as some manner of 'policy', like some people in this thread, you're a bad person. If you ever learn to feel shame, you'll remember Smash 4 and feel ashamed.

I taunt whenever I KO someone as a simple "yay" type of message. It's a personal habit of mine and I think it's pretty harmless anyway.

What else do you want me to do whilst I wait for you to respawn?

Not really relevant, but eh... That feel when you get into a match and the 3 other people do nothing but crouch spam.

The horror.

I taunt on what I feel are awesome KOs. Also taunt at the beginning if the other person taunts at the beginning, I take it as a "let's have a good match" thing.

If someone taunts me on an SD, I taunt them every opportunity I get.

I get a little annoyed when people taunt after they KO me, but I love it when people taunt at the start of a match. If I can make it to them fast enough I get a free hit and make them look really stupid.
You sound fun at parties...

Taunts never usually bother me, if I'm honest. I just look at them as a way of saying good luck or heck yes!
You taunt while I'm still alive, however, and the gloves come off. Twice now someone has taunted after launching me, thinking I was down, only to take a Dimensional Cape to the face and get KO'd right after. It's a satisfying feeling.

this reminds me a guy I played last night. Super try hard falcon, would pretty much only use grab and downtilt. His name was even me>u. It was on the 3ds too, which is especially hilarious.

Taunting in person is totally fine with me. It's fun, and it's funny. It's fine whenever it's in person, because you can tell the person is just having a good time.

Online, however?

That usually rustles my jimmies. You can usually tell whether or not the person is being cocky or not. For example, they taunt immediately after they launch you from a potential kill. However, your DI game is on point, so you live.

It also bothers me when people taunt multiple times. Like, 3 times in a row is a bit much.

Taunting at the beginning of a match is fun too, it's kind of a "Good luck, have fun" gesture. Unless it's Captain Falcon. That annoys me.

After a few matches with a random person, you can tell if they're taunting to be cocky and say "I'm better than you", or if they're doing it to have fun.

Certain characters taunts bother me too. For example, Link and Captain Falcon's taunts /really/ rustle my jimmies. Then, other taunts like DK's shoulder shrug is perfectly fine.

I see nothing wrong with taunts. Most the time I see it as something friendly. If they do it after a kill, then imo they deserve it. If they do it after I SD, it's probably because they rarely win and don't get many opportunities to taunt at people. I usually will only taunt if the other player does first, or if I do something really really cool (or if they do something really really cool too).

If you get mad at taunting, then perhaps this isn't the game for you.

Sometimes, when I'm playing against a jerk I'll use all 3 taunts while they're respawning. I do think that taunts are a bit disrespectful, but nothing to get mad over....

The only reason I get salty over taunts on FG is because I just know that I'm gonna be hit with a "LOL" or "U SUX" whenever the match ends. What can I say, name tags online suck ass. When an in-game function is literally called "taunting," there's really nothing but negative connotation to be drawn.
It kind of depends on the taunt like Sonics "Youre too slow" taunt is annoying but ones like pit's are cool.
Don't even try and tell me that Pit's "IZZAT ALL U GOT???" doesn't get annoying after about one second.

I love taunting after I KO a opponent; especially when they are on the same level as me. I'm really feeling it indeed.

People like OP make me glad Wario can bypass the three taunt limit in FG.
