When do you say that someone is retired?

I would like to know when you guys call that someone is retired. For example I'm just playing smash once a month. Even worse I would say once every 2 months and just 1 or 2 hours.
So .. would you guys say that I'm retired or not?

I would say you aren't retired, more just not playing as often as you used to

depends on how long a person thinks retirement is

retirement could be 1 second or 1 year

to me, the only way someone could retire from ssb is if they don't WANT to play anymore. If we all lived in a SSB community in the Amazon jungle right now, would you play with us? If you would play, then you aren't retired.

1. You need to have been 'not retired'
2. If you don't show any interest in smash anymore and don't do any smash-related stuff (playing smash, visiting smash forums, watching smash vids) for, let's say, several months

lol I wouldn't even use the term 'retired' since it's not a job and you don't have an income based around it. i would just say you aren't playing as much anymore.

I would say, not until that player explicitly states that they are retired. Sometimes people might not play a competitive game for a few months due to irl issues. The player has to state that they aren't interested in participating in such events anymore.

Alan, since you dont play online, I think you're not retired but isolated from the community/other good players...

In conclusion I'm not retired xP but I've realized that I don't show the same interest as before.Maybe this is because I've played all people around here and I'm bored of playing them over over and over hehe.

Jake is definitely dropping Yoshi
Well, it's better than nothing. I prefer offline over online, but in terms of playing against someone at my level, online's the only way to go (which is the case for many people who play online).

I know you were referring to alancitu's opinion. I was making a generic, not-directed-to-anyone-really opinion. I was responding to your post... but... well... I don't know... :p

He (supposedly) gets terrible delay on p2p.
Im sure he could have decent delay with peruvian smashers or chilean smashers (there are several good ones)

also, who said 2 frames is terrible. higher than 5 is terrible, 4 or lower is very playable

sometimes the delay doesn't really seem right with the ping trick

I got 2 frames with dedrick after doing the ping trick, but it felt like 3.5 or 2.5 or something I've never played at before (definitely didn't feel like the normal 1,2,3,4 type frames). it was weird; maybe my brain wasn't all there.

EDIT: oh whoops I thought I was in the social thread but still kind of works here

If you have to do the ping trick, the game will go slower than normal because it obviously can't go at 60 FPS constantly, so the slowdown there is with the delay creates a new kind of delay.

nope you don't know what you're talking about

I do the ping trick all the time to get 1 frame lower with people, but I never do it if the fps has to drop

I thought the p2p client has a delay modifying feature in "smoothing: none/If near UB/always/extra"

I never said it would drop FPS in an obvious manner. FPS can drop below 60 but still look exactly like it's 60 except that you lose fractions of frames instead, and this explains why you can feel you're getting delay in between like 3 and 4 or 3 and 2 but not exactly those. It's because you're getting fractions of frames in delay.

If that were always the case then I would notice every time, but I do not.

I was playing offline a little earlier before that so it might have been my head messing with me. I don't usually feel any different between ping trick X frame and normal X frame, unless I can't do it with someone cuz it'll lag.

The thing is, the more the ping approaches that thin line between one frame and another, the more it makes sense that you would feel a delay in-between by doing the ping trick.

But you have to have experienced those times when the fps counter shows 60 for 2 separate situations but for only one of those situations you KNOW something's not right with the way it controls (like, not TRUE 60 fps).

that's not true. boom and I are on the edge of 3 and 4. If we start the game normally it'll go to either.

We can speed up the process of getting 3 by doing the ping trick (instead of restarting over and over), and it's the same as if it went to 3 normally.

what is true is that the farther you are away from the THIN LINE, the higher chance that the fps will have a big drop if the ping trick puts you a frame under the lowest frame you can normally get (though maybe some people do lag with the ping trick no matter the circumstance, i'm talking about my experience)

that also happens on servers, if you have 60-70 ping on one server (and 1 frame more or less) if you connect with 60 and 1 frame less there are more chances to getting frame drops or even getting lagged out.
