What's with the FFA/Items hate?

When/why did the community gain the philosophy that anything that's not a competitive 1v1 itemless stock match is for uncultured savages? Is this a "skill obsessed" mindset?

Ironic since this is a party game at its core. I love playing with items; it’s one reason why I found Smash Run to be so addictive.

Maybe because it is uncultured savagery. Items spawn randomly at random times and random places and vary extremely widely in their power (compare smoke bomb to the smart bomb), adding a very significant amount of randomness to the game. FFA adds an opportunity for weaker players to collude to knock out the strongest player first, which means the end of game ranking won't reflect the real skill levels.

If you're just playing around, do whatever you want. Chaos can be hilarious. But if you want to fairly test your skill against another person, items and FFA have to go. You can choose how you want to play the game.

It's not that we hate items and FFA. It's that we hate getting placed into FFA/items matches in quickplay when we don't want to play those rules, hate having our rankings affected by those matches, and hate that we're even ranked on the same ladder as people playing those rules.

I don't hate you for playing FFA/items. I hate Nintendo for putting me in matches with you against my will with no ability to decline or leave the match.

It's because I want to play more competitive matches, and I don't wanna be matched with somebody with items on. Items promote degenerate play.

Item stages are fine until you come across a game that is just assist only, 1up only, pokemon ball only, ect. Then it becomes apparent they don't intend to have fun and or be competitive. They just want to cheese the win.

Where did you get this idea?

You can play the game however you want. That's why they include the ability to turn things off and on to your heart's content. Any way you want to play is completely valid.

It's playing online and the game ignoring your preferred rules that's frustrating.

Nobody hates FFAS or items. People hate being forced into a completely random ruleset while playing in an online competitive ranked mode. It completely defeats the purpose of having the mode in the first place. I personally just like 1v1's and don't particularly enjoy being forced into fighting three people on great cave offensive with items on high. I'd join an arena for that or specifically search for a similar rule set if I wanted to do that.

I don't haaaate them, it can be fun with friends, but it royally sucks when the game forces you to play on those gamemodes when you're trying to have a normal match.

Have you ever went online with Smash4? The mode choices are so much more simple, yet work so much better. Smash Ult has so many things to choose from, it's a bit too much for random quickplay.

If you're talking about items, probably that to. The assists and Pokemon weren't overly huge, at the very least.
