I keep going over the E for all videos... and whats up with these players? they all suck! only like maybe a few people knew what they were doing... most sonic people accidentally killed themselves... there were two links that didn't know how to jump 3 times! (jump jump and up B) why were there so many n00bs there? and why were there no good gameplay footage!!! garrrrr! i really want a demo... so bad right now. EDIT: and most people kept spamming the B button! instead of actually using regular A attacks! so boring!

Because contrary to popular opinion, not everyone is good or has played smash before. Plus it's the wiimote.

Wiimote + new physics engine + 2 minute rush playtime + some new players = slime chances of extreme pro play.

Lol I remember playing some 6 year old kid in when Smash Bros Melee was out in stores, and you could play it in Target. He was trying so hard, and his mom was right there watching him, so i let him win on purpose. I felt happy. :)

I would think anyone willing to do the following:

1. Go to the convention center where E4All was being held
2. Decide they want to go to the Brawl area
3. Wait in line all that time
4. PUT UP WITH THOSE ANNOYING BOOTH BABES!

...would at least have SOME idea how to play Smash beforehand. Apparently, I am wrong.

You do realize that Brawl is NOT Melee right? New controler, new physics, new everything. And Not everyone went there JUST to play Brawl you know. It Was E for ALL not E for BRAWL.

No, the options were Wii mote, or Classic controller. Both are not exactly the same a a Game cube controller, and a new person to brawl wouldn't know the Wiimote or the classic controller, and wouldn't have realized how hard it would be to play with the Wiimote.

People were getting what they could. You weren't allowed to record. Gimpy's thread is generally the best source for info. The vids are good for seeing how moves work a little.

Also, people wanted to play it because it's Mario fighting Sonic. It looks cool. Not everyone on these boards have been playing Melee since it came out, and even less were avid Smash 64 players.

That's my point entirely. Would someone with a passing interest in video games really sit there for 2 hours just to play a game they aren't that interested in for 2 minutes?

Maybe its just me, but is it really so hard to pickup new games? I remember the first time I played Twilight Princess on Wii. It was the first game I played on Wii, as well, so it was totally new to me.

I had Link doing all his old tricks within 30 minutes.

Now, consider this is a 2D Fighting game. A fairly simple one at that, as far as control is concerned. You got 2 attack buttons, a jump button, a shield button, and your directions. That's it, really.

I dunno. It just seems ******** to me, to stand around for hours for a game you aren't passionate about.

Depending on the person, yes it is. I've tried teaching a few of my friends back home to play Smash. They just pressed B all the time, and were surprised as HECK when they would push b and shoot up in the air becasue the concept of an Up B was alien to them. And when they found out they didn't have to use the ccontrol stick up to jump [despite my telling them they could use x and y] they were shocked too.

Not everyone picks up games at the same speed. To think that it's easy just because it's easy for you is arogant and elitist.

And Passion does not reflect skill. My friends really wanted to play, but it takes more than just a 2 minute match to get really good.

^^Especially different TYPES of games. You might be able to pick up an adventure sequel faster b/c you know how the character moves, but a fighting game is much, MUCH harder to just "play"

In addition, many people wanted the flashiness of Sonic, Ike, and Pit, and they were new, so people didn't really have a good idea of how to play with them.

Because not everyone masters a completely different game in 20 minutes of total play like they have in 6 years of Melee.......

There was a really stupid rule on the whole recording issue after the first day.

Something like:
You cannot record just footage or pictures of the game itself, you need the people playing it in the picture as well.

So naturally, by Day 4 when people had things figured out a bit more, we have really crappy movies because we had to have someone's head in the way. Oh, that, and the internet was already clogged with so many (inexperienced) videos from the first days.

why? a lot of people who went didn't bring their cameras to record, and a lot of good players that I saw didn't record their matches. A lot of fanatics recorded, though. Most people in general weren't good, and a LOT of the recordings were of random people playing, so you're going to get videos of casual players.

I don't think there was a lot of people recording their own fights, rather just people pointing their cameras at random screens and recording fights. Like I said.

Just be grateful that you have footage.

I recorded my very first brawl game on the first day during the first hour of the Expo. I had a guy behind me record my match against my friend. The video is pretty much me and him testing air dodging and trying to wavedash at the beginning, then began to fight. Just testing out my Samus to get the feel of the game's engine. I was crappy compared to how well I play in Melee with Samus. I'm not a "pro", but I'm **** good, and can wavedash all day long...but Brawl is something different...way different.

I recorded another video of my friend playing as Bowser. He actually played very well compared to our first video. Again, not nearly as well as how he plays in Melee...but the game is very different

Also, consider that it's 2 mins, and there are items appearing everywhere.

Stop critiquing the videos for not being full of pros. You wouldn't understand because you weren't there, and couldn't be there...but if you were, you'd stop sniveling about it.

PS> if you find videos of 1 vs 1's (2 players), then they are most likely using the Classic Controller at E-for-All. If you find videos of 4-player games, then they are using the Sideways WiiMote. The 4-player games are from the stage floor where the loud Nintendo Girls are announcing the gameplay from the main screen. They only had the sideways wiimote (which is incredibly hard to play with like a pro...impossible at E-for-All).

Oh yeah...that dumb little rule. Yep. During the very first day, you were allowed to record all you wanted...then they starting patrolling the stations.

You were allowed to record so long as someone was framed within view of the gameplay footage.

Know the trick??? Have someone in view next to the screen so it LOOKS like your recording with someone in the shot, but zoom your camera in to have the TV screen perfectly framed in your camera.

You'll get footage of the game w/o the person, like you intended, but the guy will think you're recording zoomed out with the person standing with the TV since he wouldn't be standing behind you and can't see your camera's display screen showing that you're only recording the gameplay.

The guys are to be up in front facing the people in line in order to keep an eye on the Wiimotes. So, yeah.

Did I not say that maybe its just me? I wasn't being condescending about it.

I guess Nintendo's game plan of drawing in the casual and non-gamers is really working, if so many totally clueless people were willing to stand in line forever.

Yay Big N!
