What Should I Know About Advanced Tactics and Matchups in Brawl?

I played Brawl a lot a few years ago but I've taken a huge break from it. There's going to be a tournament for Brawl at my school and I want to practice it again, although I don't think I learned everything that's needed to be learned in the game. I mostly played Dedede and Wolf and all I knew how to do was:
  • DACUS
  • Turnaround bairs
  • Edgeguard
Even for the DACUS I had tap to jump turned off, but for the tournament we won't have time to go through button configuration to turn it off, and I'm having a hard time doing DACUSs with tap to jump on. Also, I've seen people land on platforms very seamlessly in tournament and I'm wondering how I do that.

Finally, for the tournament there's a 3 time character usage limit, so I'm planning on just using the top 10 characters on the tier list. What should I know about matchups for these characters?

Hmm I suppose you're right. The best advice I could give you is just read the MU guide and see what beats what lol.

with a ruleset like that I highly doubt you'll find many other competitive players.

just go metaknight snake falco and/or ice climbers.

Arlgithy then. I was planning on just learning the top 5 characters and playing them anyway lol. What would you guys say is the best "anti-scrub" character other than Meta Knight? Like, gimmicks and mashing won't catch me off guard with a certain character.

I feel like wolf does well against people who don't know how to stop him. He has a good range on his F-Smash and his Down-B hit can be good. Maybe Snake and spam F-Tilt? Also you could try Diddy, and throw bananas at people and then smash them.

Yeah I was thinking of Snake because he's such a stable character, but Wolf is a good idea too. It's nice because I used to main him along with Dedede 2 or 3 years go.

I'd even go G&W, he seems like the anti-scrub type.

But if you wanted to be cool you could go Jigglypuff and pull off a Rest and watch everyone freak out when they find out that move actually does something.

I feel like I took you more seriously because I read your message in Double D's voice.
