I`m guessing pretty small from what I`ve seen. I`ve been looking into joining the competitive smash community and thought that the best place to start would be to see what my local area looked like in terms of competition.

I'm guessing you refer to the Dallas-Fort Worth area? I've never heard it referred to as DFW.

You're not from the area or have never been well informed of major airports.

It's called DFW because of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex which includes Dallas, Fort Worth, and all the surrounding cities near it.
This also is why the airport is called the DFW international airport, because it's right in between both cities.

DFW has an enormous and very skilled PM scene. Try to get in contact with people like Oracle or Sethlon to add you to Facebook groups and stuff. There are a number of other really strong players in DFW such as Awestin, Dakpo, and DMG.

I'm a Texan. Haven't spent much time in Dallas though, and I just don't fly much. I understand your metropolitan area comprises Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Arlington, and a number of other suburbias.

I'll just say, I grew up learning I was supposed to hate your city. I don't, just haven't had a reason to visit much. Last I did was for Symphony of the Goddesses! I really admire the architecture of the city. There was one freeway tunnel downtown with a turbine-lined ceiling. I guess it increases or stabilizes the wind flow? I'd like to spend some quality time in the city at some point.

Ignore this.
There's a deep-seated hatred between Houston and Dallas, mostly in our preceding generations. Guessing it stems from oil tycoon rivalry, classism, and probably sports. It's just competing BIGGER, BETTER Texas egotism on the metropolitan scale. In short, it's complete idiocy.

To note: the Dallas hate didn't derive from my raising, but rather my exposure to the ignorance of others.

I`ve been to Houston several times and I have to say that it`s a really nice place.

According to some stats I found on reddit, dfw has 4 of the top 10 pm players of 2013, so theres that. We have tournaments really frequently, and i post them all in the pr thread, linked in my sig. Also join the facebook group dfw melee, where we post about all the smashfests and tournaments also. Our next tournament, play a real game, is in a few weeks in irving. The thread is in tournament listings and on facebook. Where in dfw are you?

I have family in Houston, and whenever I'm down there (like right now) I tell friends in Houston "I'm from Dallas" because I've met people down here who don't know where Ft Worth, Arlington, or DFW is, so I have to say Dallas to cut the chit-chat and confusion.

I understand what you're saying though about the rivalry, I don't even live in Dallas but people always give me crap for it. Nobody takes it to heart, and I've always liked Houston better anyways. Because I'm in the middle of all this on top of other family living in San Antonio I just represent my state to the best.

Because there is no other state better than The Great State of Texas.

Omg You have no idea

DMG lives here? Sweet!
Do I have another fan? :0

I live in Waco. Sort of close to DFW. I'm basically Dallas though since I can't find anyone else in my city that plays PM and I end up travelling to DFW to compete anyways.

I don`t own a gamecube controller yet. I`m sure it would be fun but losing because I needed to learn the controls is a stupid thing to lose for.
The GC controller is easy to use. I can teach you my ******** Arcade grip and let you borrow my modded one with Wii controller sticks.
If you want there are some fine retailers you can buy controllers from...

Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Official-Nintendo-White-Classic-Gamecube-Controller/dp/B0017KIBAI
FX Game Exchange: http://fxgamexchangedfw.com/ (They sell used ones that are like-new, if not new, lol.)

ProTip: Third Party controllers suck, so NEVER buy them.

--

EDIT: Oh I forgot to say in P:M you can edit your controls.

Hey guys, I may be coming in late to this, but I'm in the DFW area as well. Frisco to be exact. I need some good players to practice with!

Also I asked to join the DFW Melee page on facebook, but it hasn't been accepted yet :(
