What Nintendo Franchises are Left?

If you're like me, you get excited about the thought of new franchises joining the fray. I was brainstorming the other day, trying to think of what major franchises (new and old) haven't yet been tapped for playable characters. I even tried going through Wikipedia's listings of games sorted by developer for each Nintendo console looking for names I didn't recognize or names I knew weren't used yet.

But what better place to ask then here, right?

There don't seem to be many left, but here's what I had. Keep in mind, this is not a wishlist. Just trying to be comprehensive.

Custom Robo
Starfy
Punch Out
Sin & Punishment?
Golden Sun
Mii (no formal "franchise" to categorize these guys under) / Wii Brand
Chibi Robo?
Panel de Pon
"Wars" (Advance/Battalion)
Xenoblade
Nazo no Murasamejo (Takamaru)
Pushmo
Fatal Frame?
Pandora's Tower
Eternal Darkness
Touch (Brain Age)
Star Tropics
Joy Mech Fight
Mach Rider
Excitebike
Duck Hunt

I'm not even sure if some of these are technically "eligible" by way of being developed by people other than Nintendo. Chibi Robo, for instance, was developed by Skip, which ISN'T a subsidiary of Nintendo, but Chibi Robo did have non-character content in Brawl, so I'm guessing that isn't a problem. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Again, your help would be really awesome. I KNOW I must be forgetting/unaware of some franchises, especially those that are older or Japan-only. What else is left?

And please don't argue about what franchises deserve representation. That isn't the point. I'm just trying to explore what options are left.

The Wars franchise is actually quite large, and while not one of Nintendo's most popular ones is certainly prominent. Battalion Wars and Advance Wars are probably the most likely sources for a rep from the Wars series, if we get one.

List of unrepresented franchises?

I think you could add those to the list:
Xenoblade (Monolith is first party)
Panel de Pon (made by Intelligent Systems, like Fire Emblem)
Nazo no Murasamejo (Murasame Castle, Takamaru's game)

Dillon's Rolling Western has two games now, so I figure it's at least worth a mention.

Huh.... does Nintendo have the rights to that character? I know it was developed by Vanpool, who has had games published on other consoles.

There are sooooooo many Nintendo IPs that aren't repped. I don't know the exact number, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was more than 100

Fitting? That's another question.

Some recent new franchises/IPs I can think of:
Pandora's Tower
Dillon's Rolling Western
Pushmo
The Wonderful 101
Sakura Samurai(I believe Nintendo owns the IP, but I'm not sure)
The Last Story(See Sakura Samurai)

Some older franchises that can be considered are:
Star Tropics
Punch-Out(I consider Little Mac to have the highest odds of any character to making it in)
Takamaru game
Golden Sun
Custom Robo
Sin & Punishment
Advance Wars
Xenoblade (Monolith is 1st party now)

I assume so. It only says @2012 Nintendo on the title screen for the first game (don't have the second one yet) so I think Nintendo owns the series and Vanpool makes the actual games.

Xenoblade, Punch Out!!, Nazo no Murasamejo, and Mii should all be first party IPs owned directly by Nintendo. The rest are owned by their respective subsidiaries. My gut tells me that they would be the next in line to have content pulled from. As far as franchises not represented don't overlook Rhythm Heaven.

Hardly a complete listing, but there you go.
Fatal Frame: ... apparently Nintendo owns a large portion of the Fatal Frame series? Doubt that will ever get represented in Smash...
Eternal Darkness
Touch! series (Brain Age, Art Academy)
And the Wii Sports type games haven't been explicitly used as a character.

And here's a super exhaustive list of everything Nintendo's touched.

Yes. I'm only thinking about "major" (which I understand is a bit of an arbitrary qualifier) franchises that are, for the most part, character driven or at least associated with something that can, like.... move. =P (e.g.: not tetris)

....I've never touched Pushmo, but after looking it up, I must say, Mallo is adorable... in a slightly creepy sort of way. =P

What Chibi Robo became is thanks to Shigeru Miyamoto, who discovered the abandoned game and developed it into an amazing experience on the Gamecube.
As far as I'm concerned Chibi Robo is another of Miyamoto's creations, and pretty much all of his characters are shoe ins for smash.

Well I thought franchise ment they had more than one game.

In a technical respect, that is what it means, but in the context of this thread (and most discussions around here) it's used as an equivalent to "Intellectual property."

I beg to differ! Hunter, aka Duck Hunt Dog, I can see being a great retro character.

Zapper, ducks, clay pidgeons, barks, bites, canine mannerisms, laughing taunt...

Oh there's a Smash Bros character in there, me thinks. There's more to work with than Captain Falcon, that's for sure.

Yeah! The Duck Hunt Dog could still be the WTF char of this edition.
The previous WTF chars, Mr. Game & Watch and R.O.B., were both retro, and Wii Fit Trainer isn't.

You should order these series from 1st party to 3rd so we can gauge the likelihood of representation.

Don't get me wrong. I don't disagree that's move set can be created for such characters. I'm of the belief that just about anyone or anything can be given a move set. But I think characters that have a more inherent move set are better for smash bros. just my opinion

More importantly, I think there are characters with more potential that should be considered before gag characters like G&W, ROB, etc.

Good thinking.

Side note: I'm really sick of seeing people refer to "WTF" as if its a franchise. Just saying. =P

Haha, sorry, I actually did know where it was from. Well, I at least remember it from when they were showing off miiverse for the first time. With that really corny bit about asking for help with a generic zombie game or whatever.
