Never played a game, you heard right. It is time for that to change and I need your feedback on which one is the best! I want to start with the best in the series between megaman 1 to 10. Leave me feedback so I can stop being deprived!

Mega Man Soccer here, your Mega Man 2 is Mega Man poo.

Just kidding, MM2's one of the best Classic series games, though I personally prefer the Zero games.

People typically say Mega Man 2.
I'm going to say Mega Man 2. But if you can, you really should play them in order.

Also, I IMPLORE you check out Mega Man Legends 1&2 at the earliest convenience!

I think the easiest MM games to start off with as far as Classic is concerned are 2, 3, 4, and 10. 4 and 10 are great if you want to ease into it. 10 has an easy mode and 4 was rather nicely balanced (along with a charged shot to help players).

I have heard a lot of mega man 3 as the best....I'm guessing your in the 2 camp
Not really, 2 is just the generic answer

The themes mega man uses is smash are from 2, for example, as well as his famous Metal Blade

I've played 1-4 so far and 2 is my favorite (and is also the easiest).

This is pretty much what I was going to say in regards to the classic series. Although I also encourage you to give the X series a look. It's not as challenging as the classic series but it's still very fun and plays very well.

The only Megaman game I ever played was Megaman ZX, so I guess I'm kinda weird. I really loved ZX. I heard it's quite a bit different from the main series, as far the finer details go, but it's very visually appealing and the different take on powers (different suits instead of different power-ups) I actually prefer. The male/female thing is ultimately pointless, but you can play as female Megaman if you like. I think it slightly changes the story, but I might be remembering wrong.

Don't discredit female protagonists, they can make or break a game nowadays

Yeah, it only affected story iirc. It was ZX Advent where there were some gameplay differences.

For starting, I'd recommend MM2 because you can learn the series basics from it.
For building a love of the series and it's world, MM4 is my recommendation.

I have yet to play VI through 10.

Out pf 1 to 10, which is the hardest megaman? I love a good challenging game. Sounds like 2 is easy a good place to start

If you don't abuse the pause trick, the first game is pretty difficult. Spikes are also auto death, regardless if you were invulnerable from getting hit by something.

I have no intention of using cheats..that sounds awesome. .I'm curious as to where 9 and 10 stand from the originals

I wouldn't recommend 2. The game is the most punishing in the series, as if you die you lose all of your E-Tanks. The Wily stages in particular are among the worst, if not the worst in the series as well.

Aside from the Yellow Devil, 1 isn't bad if you know what you're doing (it's probably the easiest game to speed run). It's not a bad place to start, but do be prepared to die a lot if it's your first time playing.

3 or 5 I'd say are the best place to start for the original 6 games. 3 is fairly well rounded in terms of difficulty, while 5 is pretty easy but still entertaining due to it's level design (such as Gravity Man's stage).

9 is the best game in the series IMO, and unarguably has the best weapon selection in the Classic series. But it is one of the harder games as well.

10 is one of the meh titles overall. There is an easy mode, but it does spoil players. There is also a Challenge mode that teaches game mechanics as well.

7/8 are both good games (they're amazingly underrated). But they do differ from the rest of the series due to larger sprites, levels, and hidden secrets, so they're not that great for starting out with. Avoid Bass unless you're a Pro Mega Man player.

IMO: 3/5 > 1/6/9/10 > 4/7 > 2/8 > Bass

Damn I thought I'd be the first person to mention 9.

I disagree that it's one of the harder ones, though, since you can just grind bolts, buy everything in the shop and breeze through most levels (relatively speaking).

I would recommend Mega Man 3, 9, or 2. 3 is my personal favorite in the series, though 2 is good albeit punishing.

I wouldn't say that. X3 is easily harder than the classic series (aside from MM & Bass).

I think MM&B is easily the most punishing in the whole Mega Man series. Something about the level design feels like it wasn't designed with Mega Man in mind(They feel as though they were Bass specific), and he can have a really bad time with the level design, especially with 1 miniboss that can OHKO him unless he's dangerously close to said boss since he doesn't have a Double Jump or hover like Bass does. The game also has no energy tanks and MM has no Rush adaptions/Jet.

Why pick just one? Megaman anniversary collection has 8 fantastic megaman games in one!

I like the ideas of the anniversary collection, but..... I would not call them an optimal way to play those games....

The Gamecube version has the A and B buttons reversed meaning A shoots and B Jumps.
The PS2 version has the buttons in the proper place, but has something worse: input lag.
I have the PS2 disc somewhere and there is definitely SOMETHING causing input lag which makes things like MM8's Jump! Jump! Slide! Slide! and dealing with the infamous disappearing blocks way harder.

The anniversary versions of MM7 and MM8 have some sound issues as well, though most of them are hardly noticeable.

I would say to either get the VC versions or the carts.

Well, you could pay $40 for the VC releases, or far more for the carts. I was able to pick up a copy of MMAC for about $10. Even with it's flaws, it's still a cost-effective way to play the games.

I'm biased to childhood so I'd say MM8 for it's simplicity barring the hidden secrets and brutal Wily levels.

Outside childhood though...

X5 is my personal favorite X series game. Shame it had to be ruined by X6-7.

X8 is certainly the better of the last 3, IMO. Shares Classic 8's secret finding but the tag team mechanic was nice to me.
