What is good about Smash 4 at the moment?

So lately, I've been having an internal debate with myself over why I should buy this game. I really haven't been kept up with the news of the game so far aside from the new characters, but I was just wondering why I should pick the game up.

Now, just to get it out of the way, I absolutely dread Brawl, but love Melee and Project M. I may seem like a scumbag but I just really don't like the prat falling and slower speed of brawl. I understand that Smash 4 is supposed to be slightly faster? But how fast? Is it a likable pace for matches? (And I'm a guy who also plays Street Fighter and Marvel), is there still prat falling? How does the WII U online capabilities hold up?

These are the sorts of questions I'm asking at myself at the moment and I was just hoping the community of these smashboards might help to convince me that I should be a part of the new meta and the new movement.

thanks again guys.

Lol, I love how ya call it prat falling, but no, tripping has been removed.

There's a new ledge mechanic, now if you try to grab the ledge while someone is on it, you will knock them off. We'll see how this effects the ledge game, since alot of melee KOs rely on edgehogging.

Here's some combo footage
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUtwJGVq21Q

Its hard to tell if they're legit combos, but the people pulling them off showed good use of tilt attacks and fast falling.

EDIT:

The online will be, without a doubt, amazing.
They got some amazing people working on the netcode. Anyway, lately NamcoBandai has been doing stuff to reduce the lag in online that would've been thought impossible a couple of years ago. For other examples, see Tekken Tag 2 and Wii Sports Resort Tennis online multiplayer. Nintendo handed the online over to these guys because apparently nobody from their company knows how it works. But seriously, they got near lagless online in a fighting game like Tekken, and a Tennis game, both requiring fast paced response.
The WiiU uses 802.11n wifi, a level up from 802.11g used on the xbox360/ps3 and 2 levels up from 802.11b used on the wii, also the first wifi to match the standard 100mbps download speed of a wired connection, it certainly keeps up with the crappy wii lan adapter, but if you insist on a wired connection you're stuck with the crappy wii lan adapter.

The online modes are
for glory (final destination, no items)
and
for fun (random, all items)

If you play with friends you can use whatever you want.

OTHER NEW STUFF:
All stages have a final destination version with the stage hazards and platforms removed.
All characters have 12 special moves to choose from.

If by prat falling you mean tripping, that is confirmed to have been removed except when hit by a banana peel item. Most advanced techniques were absent or limited in the E3 build. In general, randomness has been reduced and spammy moves changed or limited since DI is not present in the current build. The general consensus for game speed is that it is between Melee and Brawl. Having played Sonic Allstars and Mario Kart 8 online with the Wii U, I can honestly say it's pretty good--I suffered no incidents whatsoever.

A big thing about the game though and whether you should buy it is what sort of person you are though. If you're a fan of Nintendo and of its greatest characters duking it out, this is definitely for you. If you're only in it for the engine and the gameplay, with the characters simply being fluff, and Brawl gave you dismay, you may be better off sticking with PM or another, more traditionally competitive franchise completely.

Not too much information but I hope it helped.

Edit: Rats, Dakota greninja'd me with the tripping.

The Rayman Trophy Ubisoft made for Nintendo. I'm serious, for a company that has lost faith in Wii U to do that...it makes you wonder doesn't it?

Personally, I've just been assuming that it was Rayman's original creator, Michael Ancel, that made it. He seems like a cool guy.

Anyway, on topic:

From what I hear, the way the game looks and feels fantastic. The frame rate is smooth as butter, and the controls are tight and responsive. As for how it will perform online; well, going by my time with Mario Kart 8, it will probably have a few hiccups in the first week or so. But after that, it'll be smooth sailing.

There's also the cast, and I'm not just talking about the characters at face value. Every newcomer has something unique to them that we haven't seen before. Whether it's something small like Megaman's ranged normals or Palutena's long reaching up smash, or something big like Mac's K.O. Uppercut or Robin's need to switch out equipment as he wears his down.

MMMM interesting. The game is starting to sound quite good to me. I have a question though,

Wasn't there a new change that the farther you are launched, the more invincibility frames you'll have when grabbing the ledge? If so, if I try to hop off stage and edge hog, will I have 0? And the new mechanic that you can get kicked off the edge if someone else grabs it, does that work if the guy on the edge first still has invincibility frames or does it not matter?

Or is all of this too early to tell?

- No tripping
- More characters (looking like 49+ compared to Brawl's 39 and Melee's 25.)
- Wii U online is good, and Namco netcode is apparently fantastic
- GameCube controller adapter
- Faster-than-Brawl gameplay
- Final Destination mode for every stage
- The Villager

Still too early to know how ledge trumping and ledge invincibility works, there must be somebody who tested it.

You could always wait a while after the release to see if it fits to your liking. Or see if any of your friends or aqauintances have the game so you can give it for a spin. We will have an idea of the meta game after the 3DS release but some believe that the game may change once the Wii U version is released.

If you dreaded Brawl and find yourself only playing Melee/P:M, it may not be your cup of tea as Smash 4 seems more akin to Brawl than to Melee.

Yeah, that's confirmed. The longer you spend airborne, the more invincibility you have.

But you might want to write off traditional edgehogging - players can straight up take the ledge from each other. On person's on the ledge, and another can just snap on and force them off. The player forced off is sent up and away a short distance, with mild stun. This puts up a new form of edgehogging, where it's about timing your just to the ledge so that you can steal it from the recovering person. It's tricky, and seems a little more useful and tactical for double than singles. And yeah, stealing works regardless of invincibility.

Reason to buy it:
-You have 2+ people to play with
-The risk of bad competitive mechanics dosent matters to you
-Lots of extra content (amibo, new modes, stage builder probvably...)
-Amazing online (suposedly)
-Wii U's other titles appeal to you
Also there are some possible future releases as DLC: characters, stages, patches, online melee/64

Characters. There's a whole variety of different and fun characters, and the game is likely to have more characters than the previous iterations of Smash.

It seems that there's a lot less clones now too. (so far there has been only Lucina and Toon Link)

EDIT: This is just my personal opinion, but I'm sure competitive players would like to play as fun characters as well.
