What is a conversion?

I have heard commentators say something like "Wow, nice conversion from..." What does that mean? They shifted the flow of them getting pummeled to being in control?

Usually a conversion is just getting a follow-up in an atypical situation. Like a DI mixup that leads into kill move instead of going straight for the kill move, or making a combo work that looked almost impossible, or that no one predicted.
