What if the spacies never existed?

The year is 2001, and Masahiro Sakurai decides to remove Fox and Falco before the release of the game in all regions. Fast forwards 13 years, and what is the meta now? What does the tier list look like? Who benefits greatly, and who suffers from the new best characters?

Edit: I love spacies. They make the game more technical and are honestly a blessing to have be the best due to how exciting they are to watch. My question is more hypothetical than anything.

Sheik was god tier in the early days of competitive Melee. I could see her keeping that without spacies and all. Jiggs and ICs might move up through the tiers, simply due to being Sheik counters. Marth/Peach/Falcon all sort of lose the MU. I could see them falling behind Jiggs...putting ICs past all of them might be pushing it. It would depend on how dominant the Sheik pick would be. If there's a fair spread of the top tiers in top level play, Marth/Peach/Falcon would prob stay past ICs.

I'd put my money on:
God Tier - Sheik, Jiggs
Top Tier - ICs, Marth, Peach
High Tier - Falcon, Pika, and other chars that could deal with top tiers, but still lose to Sheik.
Mid/Low/Bottom tiers wouldn't really matter.

Speculation is fun (:

Glass canons are fun characters to play as and against. I don't think freeing up a few characters like Doc and Pika would be more fun than having Fox and Falco. Those 2 are also 2 of the most technical character in the game. There'd be much less emphasis on tech skill in this metagame

I think a more interesting question would be what if sheik wasn't in the game? Since I think a lot more characters would become viable if that were the case

ehhh...marth and sheik would be the best 2 characters in the game...marth beats ICs and i believe beats jiggs 55-45 when played correctly. Watching m2k vs hbox recently and hearing cactuar/pp talk about that MU a few years back makes me believe marth wins that MU. The only MU marth loses is vs sheik and sheik kinda just beats half the cast save Jiggs and ICs. I'd say marth vs sheik is 60-40 or 55-45 at best. Not as horrible as people make it out to be.

Jiggs and Peach would then be the next 2 best characters along with falcon...maybe followed by pika, doc, samus yoshi (fully fleshed out potential)

No 20XX. Hax still plays falcon.

But srsly, fox and falco are two of the most popular characters and have a lot of fun tech. I don't think it would be worth it to scrap them lol.

Oh I love the characters and I wouldn't want them to be scrapped. My question wasn't along the lines of "how much better would everything be". It was more like "would things change? would things become significantly worse?"

Yea, I guess I should elaborate. I think things might have been worse, as all the crazy fox/falco tech would not exist and Westballz would suck lmao no multishines

Would be interesting for sure. Falcon would be viable :D

I actually wanted to ask a similar question but a bit different: "What if Fox and Falco had no shine?"

They'd still be very strong characters. Their up-tilts are godlike.

Falco could pillar with dair into up-tilt (which he already does), he'd just have to be more honest with his low-damage combos and shield pressure.

Fox would lose a little bit of pressure/gimping ability as well as some auto-combos, but he'd still nair plane like a boss and kill at 70 with his up-smash.

They'd be weaker for sure, but they'd probably still be top 8.

As for not having them in the game, I am not sure if it would be as fun as it is. Playing as, playing against, and watching space animals are all so much fun. I think the game would still be deep and good, but I think it would be less exciting and probably less crazy.

Gotcha. It'd be interesting to see a what if lol. Yeah the game would def be less exciting without them.. I think he's asking how it would effect the meta and the tier lists though.
