...It didnt die too much...but my drawing style is ticking me off....

...Im kinda in an art block.
Ive reached that point where i feel completely and utterly unsatisfied with my artwork and that i need to improve it.
But no matter how much i draw, i never feel like im improving at all.

Ive been tweaking stuff (eyes, faces, etc) and trying hard to fix whatever ticks me off...but the list keeps growing and i keep feeling annoyed and unsatisfied with what i fix. Its like a freaking backwards cycle.

So yeah...this sucks.
Ah well...ima push through it. I need to do betterrrr = A =

I AM DETERMINED!! >__<

I inspired myself at everything I do I am my own hero but I am humble and your hero can't be corrupt so yeah. But it COULD be a mental phase really. but if you love create keep going don't let yourself stop you from making something beautiful. I will talk if you want

Believe it or not, this is actually a good thing. I actually had a pretty long conversation with someone about this in the past.

The fact that you're unsatisfied with your work means you realize there's room for improvement. This happens to me often. I usually spend a long time on most of my stuff, like a month or so. Sadly, shortly after it's done I end up hating it and I can't even bear to look at it. I thought it just meant I was a bad artist, but maybe not. Someone told me that it just means you actually care about the quality of your work.

It would be much worse if you were always 100% satisfied with your end products and always saw them as perfect. Sounds weird, but hear me out. The fact that you're changing your stuff around a lot means you're realizing any errors in your past drawings. Look closely at real life models--facial features, objects, lighting, and compare them to your own renderings. You're likely going through this phase of "I hate my stuff" because you're beginning to realize the difference between drawing what you think the object 'should' look like (from memory/other sources) and drawing what you're actually looking at. You're probably starting to develop your own 'styles' as well, which can be rough when first starting out.

I used to look at other people's stuff on DA, and I would hate most of what I made. That only means I care enough to fix the problems I made before, and I think the same can be said for you. If I thought I was perfect and stopped trying to improve I'd be much farther behind than I am now.

This is a good trait for you to have if you're gonna go to art institutes/programs in college. It's really competitive. The people who know they can do better and continue to work at it are the ones who get their portfolios accepted, not the people who are simply content with their current skill...

It feels like you're going backwards, but you're definitely going forward. You'll see. Good luck with your inspiration.

@Insane Crazy Guy:
...Whut?

@NeonNess: I get what you're saying! What you said is probably the best advice i could get for my art block. And what you say is definatly not wierd. That mindset is a great one for improvement. I JUST GOTTA KEEP TRYIN MAH BEST!

Kinda like Smash Bros. where you know you can get better, but you don't quite know how.

Maybe you should try something different. Pick up a new art style, take a break from what you do now, and maybe incorporate some of the new style into the old once you've got the hang of it. Even the best artists go through stages/periods during their life where they change their style.

From what I've seen though, you're a great artist (apparently positive encouragement can help too, lol).

Down the path of success there will ALWAYS be road blocks. Trust me. If you let them get you down this early, then well there's really no reason to keep going. Which it's a good thing that you're not letting it do that.

Keep the motivation and strive for perfection, and realize that you should never reach it, for like what Neon Ness. Any type of artist (drawing, writer, etc.) will always keep the attitude that says "How could I make this better?". If you have that attitude, then you're just another artist. So this is definitely normal.

Edit: If small things do happen to get in your way with the rest of the design though.. then just move on and come back to it later. If you feel more comfortable adding the tweaks and fixes in when you finish, then that's probably the best thing to do. Just make a note or something that you need to work on this, this, and this.
