I was practicing with my brother and then something somehow reduced the knockback of limit up b significantly (fairly confident it would've killed otherwise).

That is strange. At the start of limit up b there are 2 hits, the confirm that knocks them up, and then the proper hit that kills. I think what happened here, is somehow the spacing and momentum of both of you somehow made it so only the confirm hit landed, and not the second hit that kills.
