What happened here when I tried to intercept Pac-Man's recovery?

I tried asking on Reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/2k9qqp/can_anyone_explain_what_happened_here_as_i_was/) but I only got one vaguely helpful answer.

To those who can't see the video, here's what happened:

• Pac-Man fell down, and recovered with his trampoline.
• I tried to steal his 3rd bounce, so I went down after him around the 2nd bounce.
• Neither of us ended up bouncing up high (3rd bounce) and instead both of us died (with me entering fallspecial, as touching the spring the 4th time would cause)

It seems that we might've touched it at the same time, which made us both bounce as if the trampoline was red... but I'm not really sure.

I've never seen that behavior before.

The simultaneous jump made it so that the trampoline immediately processed two jumps

Both of you hit it at the same time, making it skip the third state and go straight to the fourth for both of you.
