practicing against the computer trains your mind to think the way they do. people think completely different and do a variety of different things. mind games is a another category where you'll lack by only playing computers. train on on your friends, even if there bad, tourney's, anything, not computers. if you do train on comps, make sure your doing it for something specific, like, practicing a couple advanced techs or something, but don't think that the match you have with the comp is training in itself, but it does help with technical skill. any playing does...

Meh about 20 minutes a day on a lvl 1 CPU to keep my tech skill up, then every other day my crew and I will get together for some practice, usually lasts a couple of hours long. Tournies are a great way to take advantage of friendlies. And of course if you lose early, instead of watching finals and whatnot, you can always ask someone to go play.

The best thing you can do is play highly skilled players. This increases your smashing ability like nothing else. Facing a wide variety of characters/playstyles is also very useful.

playing ppl who kick the **** out of you are always fun and very helpful. Figure out why they are kicking the **** out of you, and improve. Also, i doubt the only ppl who play smash near you are you and your bro, they might be the only ones within a 5 minute drive, but that's not anything. You might have to look out a radius of 30 min drive to find ppl who are better than you, but it will help. You might want to check the regional zones under the tournament section to find players near you (in addition to tournies near you). But the best thing you can probably do is to stop playing against CPUs except for training very specific things (i.e. waveshining, etc...) but never for general gameplay. Play against your bro a bunch. even a human who is not good is better than a cpu because they think and change things.

Edit: oh yeah, for practice, i go in training mode, spam a bunch of lasers around, practice drillshining/ waveshining. sometimes i rubberband a controller's l button down, and shffl into it's shield until it breaks, then repeat. I also practice other random stuff like firestalling, multishining, illusion edgehogging, edge wavedashing, etc.

Technical meaning the ability to execute all methods of attack in a clean, fast, accurate movement. The idea behind being a Technical Fox is to move extremely fast, so fast in fact, that you put a lot of pressure on your opponent in effect forcing them to act too fast to try and keep up with you. This is where you take advantage of the opponent's mistakes and punish them.

Being technical can also mean being able to execute "flashy" combos at ease, but I don't much like that definition. Just because a Fox is Flashy, doesn't mean they are always really technical. You can't often grasp tech skill from watching a video, you get an idea from actually playing someone who is really technical.

You learn more when u lose than when u win. So like scotu said find out why hes woopin on you that much and change something, get better at waveshining combos, practice shhfling, etc. I lose against my homie gary nearly al the time but every time i come back and play him i see myself getting better, i can actually take some games off him now.

Smash isnt an overnight thing bro.

First off lemme say that I abandon trying to think of mindgames or any sort of battle tactics while playing by myself against cpus, it will only develop bad habits. I never goto 1up mode unless I'm going for a speed run or something. The important thing to do IMO during this time(playing solo) is to practice on technical efficiency and making even the most technical moves(i.e fade-away SHDL) second nature.

Do things one @ a time, don't try to think of mindgames/offensive assaults/defensive strategies and tech skill @ the same time. Use the time you spend facing other ppl for mindgames etc. and time by yourself for tech skill. If you are technically sound when facing ppl, it gives you a better opportunity to use/try/learn new mindgames rather than thinking...about how you need to not miss l-cancels or techs in certain situations.

1) goto brinstar and practice L-canceling on the little hazards on the bottom platform. Yeah lvl 1 cpus are easy to do that with, but L-canceling the little barrels helps for l-cancelling those drills that hit more than you expect (that usually result in a missed l-cancel if not prepared.)

2)practice both the wall and flat ground infinite. Yea some can smash DI but Im not convinced yet that with perfect timing and prefect wavedashing that a peach/shiek/link/CF/ganon (probly a few more char) can get out of either

3)goto brinstar depths and practice wave landing on that uneven ground

4) goto icicle mountain(yay its actually useful) and wavedash on the ice. I do this because its easier to see if you do a perfect wavedash due the lack of traction.

5) goto fox target practice and wall tech of the electric blocks to the right side of the map

6) turn on 3 lvl nines and practice reacting to getting hit. Since there are 3 of them its harder to see when you get hit(cuz the cpu is dumb and they all walk to right next to each other) that way, you can react and either DI/tech/wall tech/etc faster and more efficiently

7) goto battlefield and do all of your aerials around the 3 platforms. See how many rotations you can do b4 you mess up. (its more fun with marth and wave landing around the
platforms) Make sure that u can go clockwise and counter clockwise.

being a fox main is difficult nowadays. He's been in the meta game longer that anyone so its safe to say that ppl know how to play against him more than anyone. This means that there is no room for technical error.(i.e. missing l-cancel against a solid DK). Movement and mindgames are very important as well but as said b4 tackling them one @ a time is the key. mindgames and movement can come easier if you have everything technical as second nature
