She who makes bad posts
This made me realize that I need to play more series. This is out of games that I've actually *played*; I'm pretty sure that the CDI games were worse than Phantom Hourglass. Anyways:
: The Lost Levels. Nearly unplayably hard, like a ROM hack game. I never got remotely far in this, but I played it so it counts.
: Phantom Hourglass. I actually quite enjoyed Spirit Tracks, and played it before I played this. Hourglass was basically a less refined version of Spirit Tracks. STUPID TEMPLE OF THE OCEAN KING! The story failed to have much of a credible conflict; tracking down Bellum is quite difficult and it doesn't act as much of a threat in the meantime.
: Epic Yarn. This is where the "only ones I've played" thing becomes clear: the only other ones I played were Mass Attack and Air Ride. I loved the aesthetic, but ultimately couldn't get into a game that was impossible to lose.
: Other M. Yeah, I'm one of those guys. Samus and Adam's existing characterization were destroyed. You could argue that Samus used to be a blank slate, but she really wasn't; a character is evident based on what She chose to be a bounty hunter, like Boba Fett! Her nemesis is Ridley, a badass space dragon who never seems to die; such an enemy shows that she's quite powerful indeed. Apart from that, her actions define her. She's destroyed countless planets and stations, but the ending of Metroid II shows that she has compassion. She has the confidence required to take on armies. She raised raised by the Chozo, the wisest race in the galaxy. In Corruption, when Dark Samus ambushes a room with the four most badass bounty hunters in the galaxy, who doesn't get shot? Samus is larger than life. She's Superman! The point is, crying in front of Ridley is completely the opposite of the character. Apart from this, the areas were way too linear even compared to Fusion and the over-the-shoulder and Where's Waldo sections were incredibly annoying. I should probably stop ranting before it takes over the post.
: Tropical Freeze, technically. It was the only one I played! Oh no! I should get to one of the classics. Tropical Freeze was actually really good, but it had a distinct lack of crocodiles.
: A toughie. I guess the first one, since it isn't as refined as later installments.
: Lost World. That was really closer to "meh" than "bad", but it was the only one I played. I should get to Sonic Colors, or better yet one of the first three.
: Technically the original (only one I played). A fun game, also I suck at it
: EarthBound, only one I played, yada yada yada. Quite a good game!
: Punch Out!! on the NES. Only one I played *again*??
: Wii Play. Most of the minigames weren't very fun. The trouble is that it isn't a game with a Wiimote thrown in, it's a Wiimote with a game thrown in.
: 2. The best game in the series by most accounts, and also the only one I played.
So what we've learned here is that I need to play more Nintendo games. I've played quite a few but mostly stuck to Mario, Zelda, and Metroid.
