I'm playing against a pretty good sheik but all he does is grab and I just can't get out of it. It's causing me to get beat most of the time. Is there a certain thing I should do? I'm Greninja btw.

It's hard to say I don't have a visual of the fight but I can tell you right now it's your habits being exploited, you're too predictable or your trying to play way too safe which still leads to the first point

Sidestep, that's what it's main function is really. It's a defensive option that makes you immune to grabs for a split second. I know it sounds blunt that's simply just it.

Hmm. Now that you mention it I do use the dash grab a bit too much against him. Maybe I should try to read his grab and punish him, cause sometimes he'll just keep grabbing and grabbing until he gets it

You have to be a little more unpredictable in what your doing, if the the reason is your to predictable. When you go for a dash attack maybe do a dash grab to mess them up. Fake them out to think you are going to attack and instead use your b at a distance. Do some air attacks. If your doing things like this a person who is only going for grabs will have a harder time to get you.

One of the easiest grab reads is someone about to shield. As a greninja I think it'll be great to practice this mentality. I will give you an example of an initiation:

-Greninja short hops and starts to charge shuri
if the opponent jumps to hop over the fully charged shuri he instead eats a small shuri (moving on)
-So a second option is to just hold shield in their head.
if this is read by you the moment you let loose of the fully charged shuri, dash forward and grab them.

you have just set up a mix up grab trap. (this is not an instant win strat and a simple spot dodge by them further counters this tactic but if you're tight you'll clip them with the shuri or get the grab, especially if you're mixing it up with up smashes etc.) It's just to offer general advice on what might be happening.

Think back or play the replay if you are falling into something similar from other players. Are they forcing you into shielding because you're not comfortable with the next potential outcomes?

In this game down throws lead into some pretty brutal combos for a lot of the cast. Learn spacing and don't get discouraged, it'll be easier to read potential plays for both sides the more you do so!

And do some homework on pivots, dash grabs/attack mixups, and what moves you can grab out of shield and for moves with multiple hit boxes, when you can out of shield.

GL!

Generally, if you are getting grabbed too much then it most likely means you are being too defensive. Try sticking out pokes when the opponent tries to approach and stop them from grabbing you.

It also helps to work on your movement. Don't be where your opponent thinks you will be.

i know what you mean actually, i use Greninja as well and im not if you noticed but dont you feel there is a delay on his grab? unlike other characters that come out very fast, its a bit harder to punish a grab when missed but one of the most common set ups is they block your attack and grab you, try to do the same to do, try to learn their pattern and punish them, if he goes hell bent on trying to grab you, then slow down, expect his move and side step to punish, or roll, most likely they will roll too, anticipate the direction of their roll and punish that too, thats about all the tips i can give, since Lucario gives me a hard time for that same reason along side Ness, their grabs are very good and fast S:

Punish those grabs he's going for. You could try to short up over him and back air him, oh grab after a short hop, try short hopping around him to throw him off, if you mix up Short hops with fast falls you just may have the upper hand.

No I am not much of a defensive player at all

Hmm, thanks. I'll try that. It sounds like it'll work

With Greninja you could try to mix things up by throwing in some Shadow Sneaks.
I already do occasionally but I try to stay away from using it too much cause it's very punishable

Ah...is he shielding your attacks then grabbing afterwards or is he running up to grab you every time?
He's running up to grab. And sheik is hard to punish after grab

"I'd say this matchup favors Sheik because that's how most matchups work in Smash4" - commentator on a tournament I was watching.

If he's consistently running, just dodge. After the dodge, try a Dsmash or something (they come out fast for Greninja, but Sheik is pretty much safe on literally everything). If that doesn't work, try rolling away and using a different move.

I actually did kinda short hop around and dodge a little and he really got caught off guard, he just kept grabbing and grabbing, it helped out, thanks.

Glad to help. As a general rule, if something keeps working against you, try to come up with a different reaction until one works. In the majority of cases, unless you're tied into something that can't be canceled, there is probably a way out.
