Smash Apprentice
While it might be a no-brainer that lots of fans here are going to use their Gamecube controllers for the new Smash with the new adapter, I can't be the only one with some different plans on the subject of controllers.
For instance, with Brawl, I actually got used to using a Wii remote held sideways, and that was the controller I always used, and quite frankly, I played much better with that compared to a GC controller, but hey, everyone has different tastes. However, my only gripe was that if I played intensely, like during a tourney, my thumb that was mashing the dpad would feel all worn (that the right word?) From mashing the d-pad.
For the Wii U version, I'm going to upgrade to a Wii U Pro Controller. It already felt nice to play games ike Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 with it, and since I played Brawl with it on an emulator at a friend's house, and from the Best Buy demo, it felt nice to use. (I wish there was a homebrew app to use the controller with Brawl as a GC controller.) Plus, I won't have to deal with my thumb feeling strange after playing, since the control sticks have a flat surface, which is much more comfortable in my opinion.
