Gamecube controller, but that's because it's what I've used my entire life to play smash. (Since my first ever was melee.) It just feels natural for me to play smash on one.

I got my Wii U a few months ago without a GC Adapter, I had been playing 3DS ever since that game had come out. For that reason I used 3DS for a short while until I found out I could only play regular Smash with that. I then switched to Gamepad until I had money for an adapter, and have been using the original purple/blue-ish GameCube Controller ever since.

Same setup as I did from Brawl. Wiimote and Nunchuk.

I got too accustomed to that setup to really make any changes.

I like the people controllers for its triggers and bring wireless. I can't have a cord going 10 feet across the room lol. give me a gamecube controller with pro controller triggers and make it wireless and you have me sold!
or give me a pro controller with the 8 way grooves to guide your movement accurately

Yeah, I used that setup for Brawl too. I liked it and honestly thought that was the best setup until recently.

I started out playing Smash Wii U with the gamepad and old classic controller, but I never really got the hang of that. I play a lot of Smash 3DS, so I'm fine with using the 3DS as a controller. It doesn't work in the solo modes though, so I eventually got one of these so I could have a controller that I was comfortable with that worked with all of the game modes.

It doesn't work exactly like the real GCN controller since it has two Z buttons and shoulder buttons that work like the gamepad's (they're more like single press buttons than the triggers on the GCN controller that you could press lightly or hold down all the way), but I've gotten used to that and don't really have a problem with it. You can also use it to play any classic controller compatible game, including Brawl and Mario Kart 8, which is a big part of the reason why I decided on it instead of a GCN controller adapter.

Interesting, thanks for the picture by the way! Now I know what one of the updated GC controllers look like.

Oh, I see. I thought you meant the 3DS version. That's too bad really. :(
Also because of my college stuff, I don't have much time to play the 3DS version either.

I should also remind you that no double post.

The Nintendo 2DS isn't an option
I feel alienated

I guess 2DS counts into 3DS control?

Maybe the poll option should be changed to 3DS/2DS controller.

Before I really got into competitive Smash, I used the Wii Mote and Nunchuck for years. Fortunately, I got into the hang of the GCN pretty quickly. I need a HORI fight pad in order to play PM on Wii U since my Wii broke down a while ago.

I completely know what you mean, in fact I own a 2DS. Maybe I should change it and make it 3DS/2DS like mario123007 said.
I'm not sure if you can change poll options... can you change it?

I mostly play with the GameCube Controller but I also enjoy using the Pro Controller since it feels comfortable, is wireless, and feels natural since the button mapping is similar to the 3DS version.

I use the Wii U GamePad, the Wii U Pro Controller, and Nintendo 3DS because they all have pretty much the same controller layout. When it comes to the home console version, I mostly rely on the Pro Controller.

So do I. I wish a lot of forums would let you do that.
Yeah.
Anyway, I hope you can try GC controller, it's really a great controller to me. Even thought the L and R buttons feel a bit hard to press sometimes, but you really should try it out sometime.

Yeah, I should. I remember playing with the original GC controller on the GC system for Melee and I remember it was pretty good. I honestly didn't know so many people loved that controller and used it so much.

3DS because I'm an avid 3DS player and the 3DS controller feels natural to me.
However, for some reason, there seems to be a lot of input delay on Wii U with a 3DS controller so I generally either use the GamePad or GC controller for Wii U, but I still prefer the 3ds.

I currently use the WiiU Pro controller because I do not yet have a GC adapter for my GC controllers. I also use the 3DS as a controller for the WiiU just because I've gotten so used to them.
