I don't see where the power fantasy comes into play
Me neither; the gameplay doesn't seem to lend to it, yet a lot of people enjoyed depicting samus as a stoic, possibly mute badass as opposed to what we got in Other M.

Actions speaks louder than a thousand words.
Potentially! An action is only worth it's context; for instance the context of Other M and the actions therein is that Super Metroid just happened.

Let me just say that Super Metroid, from the perspective of someone who isn't aware that it is just a game, is one long gauntlet of both literal and metaphorical mind-melting terror. Personally, as a dorky woman who wears glasses and sits around playing video games and looking at pictures of cats from the comfort of my own home, I'm utterly beyond being capable of relating to anyone that isn't screwed up after going through that. Personally I look at Samus in Other M and see the devs trying to be as realistic as possible, given the limitations of a single human's psyche, without having her locked up in a mental hospital for losing it and trying to gun someone down over a klondike bar.

And that's why I enjoyed Samus more after Other M.

-Captain Falcon (though I'm a huge F-Zero fan now)
-The Fire Emblemiers
-Ness
-Sheik
-R.O.B. (Had no idea what he was until Brawl)
-Samus

I played the first Smash when I was very young. I was a huge Mario fan even by then, and I also loved Pokemon. Had no idea who Samus, Cap, and Ness were though. Maybe Kirby I'm not too sure.

I played Smash 64 but it wasent until I was older playing Melee I had interest in who the characters I dident know actually were. Thanks to adventure mode and reading about the trophies I got into Samus's stories with Metroid Prime, and the Zelda series with Twilight Princess. Most of the other characters I just watching play-thoughs of their games.

Roy!:roypm: He always gave off such a cool vibe to me in Smash Bros. Sure, he may not necessarily be better than Marth (Unless you count Project M, then he is better than Marth there.:troll:), but he always seemed cooler to me... And that's not just because he has red hair like me. He seems like a pretty cool character outside of Smash Bros based on what I've seen. I need to play me some FE at some point, I know.
Shulk!:4shulk:I've never played Xenoblade Chronicles before, but I was a little familiar with it. Shulk just seems awesome as a character. The Monado is a very unique kind of sword weaapon and Shulk has some of the best taunts in the game. I'm kind of excited for the new Xenoblade game as a matter of fact, even though Shulk isn't in that one.

:popo: Ice Climbers, all the way. I would so get a new full-length adventure game starring those two.

Also, Duck Hunt. :4duckhunt: I have hated that dog for 25 years. Now, I have only love for him. Welcome home, prodigal son.

Erm...probably no one. All the characters I particularly love to play in Smash I have already loved prior to their Smash debut.

Wolf. I am by no means a Star Fox fan, but Wolf's voice and lines in Brawl made it impossible to not like him.

Captain Falcon is a really obvious choice for me. I've never played an F-Zero game, but I'm absolutely in love with Captain Falcon because of Smash. I'd also say Lucina and Robin. I bought Fire Emblem Awakening because of Marth/Roy/Ike and fell in love with the series. And I would never appreciated Luigi fully without Smash.

"What's the matter, scared?"

That's one line that first comes to mind.

Ahahah, I'll be honest, when I was a young one, I was a pretty dumb kid. I remember me playing SSBM, I barely knew most of the characters. When I saw Ness, I didn't even know who he was and what game did he come from, my memory's a bit fuzzy, but I believe that somehow, just because Ness was in Melee, I discovered Earthbound (And promptly became a huge fan over the times), and honestly, I'm glad that happened.

For something more recent, Iggy became one of my favorite koopalings just by using him as a palette, that's about it, really.

Wolf. He's what got me into star fox, I didn't know who he was and I don't think I even knew what star fox was. But the feeling I got when the challenger approaching message appeared and I saw this badass was incredible.

Then I started playing him and it was like the perfect match, he fit my playstyle to well and when he was cut I didn't know what to do
