Me neither; the gameplay doesn't seem to lend to it, yet a lot of people enjoyed depicting samus as a stoic, possibly mute badass as opposed to what we got in Other M.I don't see where the power fantasy comes into play
Potentially! An action is only worth it's context; for instance the context of Other M and the actions therein is that Super Metroid just happened.Actions speaks louder than a thousand words.
Let me just say that Super Metroid, from the perspective of someone who isn't aware that it is just a game, is one long gauntlet of both literal and metaphorical mind-melting terror. Personally, as a dorky woman who wears glasses and sits around playing video games and looking at pictures of cats from the comfort of my own home, I'm utterly beyond being capable of relating to anyone that isn't screwed up after going through that. Personally I look at Samus in Other M and see the devs trying to be as realistic as possible, given the limitations of a single human's psyche, without having her locked up in a mental hospital for losing it and trying to gun someone down over a klondike bar.
And that's why I enjoyed Samus more after Other M.
