I read an article by Amanda Palmer in AP magazine a while ago, and I think I basically agree with her stance on things. Basically, with how easy it is to distribute music now, the days of paying for music are on their way to being extinct. It's becoming easier and easier to get your music out to the masses for free. Artists can even go on tour without a label now. I think we're getting to the point where fan are turning into patrons, and instead of paying for music itself, people will pay artists specifically to support them so they can keep making the music they love.
And I'm kind of hoping that does happen because it might weed out the **** bands and pop stars, while still allowing everyone with a passion for making music to just make it and get it out there for people to hear if they want to.
To answer the question directly, I pretty much plunder everything if I can (with certain exceptions). But then, once I've heard an album, if I love it, I'll go buy it to show the artist a little (very little) love. The way I see it, the artists who made the albums that I don't like don't deserve my money. But if there are a few songs on there that I dig, I might as well have them to listen to. The artist isn't losing any money because I wouldn't have paid for the album anyway.
