Me? Meh, I don't care either way. Sure when you buy an album for a store you're "supporting" the band, but then again...Musicians (on average) only get 10 cents per album sold. So pirating their album isn't as bad as you think it is. (No, I'm not telling you to go out and pirate from now on.)

I'm trying to stay away from Pirating more than I used to. Granted I don't go into music stores and buy cd's mainly because I usually only find one good song per CD. I'd have to be really into the band, like Sum41 or AC/DC.

I really don't pirate anymore. The only songs I download a lot now-a-days are songs from video games, which really isn't pirating if you own the game I guess.

I read an article by Amanda Palmer in AP magazine a while ago, and I think I basically agree with her stance on things. Basically, with how easy it is to distribute music now, the days of paying for music are on their way to being extinct. It's becoming easier and easier to get your music out to the masses for free. Artists can even go on tour without a label now. I think we're getting to the point where fan are turning into patrons, and instead of paying for music itself, people will pay artists specifically to support them so they can keep making the music they love.

And I'm kind of hoping that does happen because it might weed out the **** bands and pop stars, while still allowing everyone with a passion for making music to just make it and get it out there for people to hear if they want to.

To answer the question directly, I pretty much plunder everything if I can (with certain exceptions). But then, once I've heard an album, if I love it, I'll go buy it to show the artist a little (very little) love. The way I see it, the artists who made the albums that I don't like don't deserve my money. But if there are a few songs on there that I dig, I might as well have them to listen to. The artist isn't losing any money because I wouldn't have paid for the album anyway.

I'm 50/50 on it, pushing more for "I endorse it" since it's impossible to actually press laws and contain pirating on a reasonable level.

Also I'm poor and would have like 20 albums if pirating didn't exist. If I do go buy an album it isn't for like "omg this artist is so good let me throw 15 bucks at them" but it's more because "this album is so good that it doesn't do justice downloading a **** rip and FLAC takes up a ****ton of space on my very small HD."

I would have thought that record companies would be obsolete by now. Seriously, a band can publish and sell/distribute their music themselves through the internet. Of course, I'd still only "buy" a song/album if it is truly a work of art. Otherwise, I'll still be able to just listen to it once on YouTube and then just forget about it.

I'm a guy that buys by song. On my iPod I have 212 songs and 200 artists. Only one band has 3 songs and that would be Toto.

Anyway, considering buying music barely does anything for the musicians, because contrary to popular belief, musicians get money from touring. I really hate record labels that my money supports, so I usually pirate music.
